Default Question about AutoScanner U480

I have a new AutoScanner U480 CAN/OBDII code reader.

The instructions say to turn on the ignition in the car, but don't start the engine to read/reset codes.

How is this done in a C6? I plugged the scanner into the OBD port, sat in the car with the fob, but couldn't get the scanner to initially scan through the protocols.

Also, should I be concerned about the warning about erasing trouble codes that says that not only the codes but the "Freeze Frame" data and manufacturer specific inhanced data will also be erased.

Had to replace my gas cap and now have the "Check Engine Light" on and want to eliminate it.

Have driven the car several times since replacing the cap, but light still on.

Any suggestions?

Push the bottom of the start button and then do your scan. Your check gas cap message will go off after a few more cycles.

I tried pushing the bottom of the start button and also going into the accessory mode, but it didn't work. Will have to try it again tomorrow and spend a little more time with it. I am certain it is something that I am screwing up.

I know the manual says the light will go out after a few cycles with this problem, but mainly wanted to try the scanner.

Thanks!

I have an Innova 3110 and it works fine. Good luck and let us know what happens.

Press and hold the bottom of the start button for at least 5 seconds to make the car go into ignition on state rather than acc. mode.

Well, this thing still doesn't work. Tried holding bottom of start button, etc, etc.

I get the initial window in the scanner, but when it starts looking for the protocal, it just stays on the first one - SCAN...PWM.

It is supposed to scan through the available protocals and then give a message when it finds the correct one. Then the codes can be read/reset.

What a pain.

Once you held the button down did you get it to go into ignition on state? You should have been able to see the engine light along with others in the dash since the ignition was on instead of being in acc. mode.

Brett,

I was not able to get to the state that you mentioned. No CEL light etc.

I was in my garage, and the headlights came on, instruments illuminated, but no other indications other than that prior to a normal start. I was in the car with the fob, scanner pluged into the OBD port, door closed.

I have read and reread the instructions for the scanner, but it seems that the problem is turning on the ignition without starting the engine.

I have an '06 with the 6 speed auto transmission.

This is becoming a real challenge!

Mine worked the first time I tried it. Have you tried it on a different car? Maybe the reader is bad?

By the way, the engine light does not go off after a few on/off cycles as suggested by the owner's manual. My dealer said that it may take up to 40 cycles after the gas cap is properly placed.
So, is there a way to turn off the warning light without a code reading tool?
