Its taken a while to get them, but we have a limited number of the new KONI FSD dampers for C5/C6, part number 2100 4053 for a complete car set.
Who might want these? Drivers as concerned about ride quality as with handling performance. C6/Z51/ZO6 drivers tired of the poor ride and steering dartiness over less-than-perfect surfaces. Drivers who use their Vettes for "daily driver" service.
Order them through your local KONI distributor; if you're not sure who that is, I can suggest some good ones. Pricing will vary, but these should be way less than coil-overs, in the $650-750 range.
Been waiting for these, however are they really ready for prime time? By "limited number" I assume you mean it's because of production constraints and that they are in fact well tested and ready to go?
M14,
Yes, the C5 and C6 have different ride/shock travel dimensions, but the differences are not great and we were able to choose a shock length appropriate to work on both.
MYVetteBy25,
Yes, they are ready for prime time. We used both a C5/ZO6 and C6/Z51to do our proto development work and the chosen shock settings worked equally well on both cars.
Stage7,
Try www.tirerack.com for your area. Understand that these are new parts, so you may have to talk to someone on the phone to order them (their website may not be updated yet). See the part numbers above.
Well, KONI doesn't make a non-adjustable shock for the C5/C6 except for the new FSDs. The FSDs have a parallel valving system that deals with both wheel frequencies and body frequencies, and because of this design concept, FSDs yield a good ride plus good body motion control. Usually you have to give up the ride quality to get good body control, but not with this shock. That's why we are suggesting these for Vette "daily drivers".
Is there a diffferent part number or body required for cars that have been lowered? Also, is this the upside down version the lowers the unsprung weight?
