Default Vararam

I have done a search on intakes but I still have some quick questions! Is the Vararam the best intake for performance? Also how is the quality and fitment?
THANKS GUYS

If all goes well I plan to get the precut shroud, the intake system, and the throttle body spacer. And my 07 has never seen rain so I don't have to worry about water ingestion.

What is the 2nd best c.a.i (performance wise)?

I would do a search and read them all very carefully. I have one, but I am a little concerned about the fitment at the moment.

Do a search, and prosper.

I am in the middle of an install right now, and so far I'm not impressed with the fitment, but I'm not done yet. One piece of advice.. get someone to help that has experience or pay a shop that has done them before. Kevin

I am definitely concerned with the fitment issues. An intake that leaks is no good. I wish the quality was as good as the performance gains.
THANKS GUYS

I don't know if I am still going to buy the Vararam. I want to do a little more research on other intakes.

The intake doesn't leak...at least mine doesn't. The cutting and fitting the intake assembly through the shroud is the hardest part of the install. Other than that, it is a great product.

Hi Dan..here's my experiences with intakes for two C-6's.... for what it's worth..

1) I put a "HURRICANE" INTAKE on my Black '06 Z-51 6-spd.....it was a PIA to put in but the fitment after installation is good, although i'm not thrilled about the instructions to wash and re-oil the "green Stuff' filter element every 5000 miles. I have 22,000 miles on my '06 and have cleaned the element once. Fitment is excellent and rseults (RWHP with Random Tech headers, high flow cats, X-pipe and "noisy" Corsa Sport exahust +160 F T-stat, B/P'd injectors but no tune yet....are excellent.

2) I put a Hall Stinger on Terry's Monterrey Red '07 A-6 coupe and it was easier to install, plus the qulaity (NOT flimsy like the HURRICANE or VARARAM) was excellent. Results TBD since this car is currently a "garage queen".

3) Have seen other cars (various C-5's) with VARARAM intake and while results at the dragstrip were good, ease of installation, quality of construction and fitment were problematical, to say the least, IMHO. I'm told ,but haven't seen, that VARARM is much improved for the C-6 application. But since I drive in any weather, I'm concerned about the "0.1%" chance of ingesting H2O...so no VARARAM..I think I'll probably dispense with normal aspiration, in April '07, and get a "wheezer".i.e. a PROCHARGER Intercooled supercharger when the '06 C-6 software is available.

Best Regards, Dan....Bernie

Had to drill new mounting holes in the Vararam, notched the plastic radiator cover and shaved the rubber side-mounted blocks to make the two halves fit together tighter. If I had to do it again, probably would have bought another brand of CAI.

I really believe that if you install the Vararam correctly you won't have any fitment issues or problems.

It was installed correctly. First time was Saturday. Took it apart Sunday and reinstalled it again. That's when I made all the modifications to make it fit better. When I installed it the first time, there was no adjustment left on the red mounting bracket. The Vararam still was an inch higher than the TB and it hit the hood liner. Second time, I drilled new holes in the Vararam and notched the radiator cover. Gained about 3/4". What I plan to do next is eliminate the accordian coupler and replace it with a smooth silicone coupler. The accordian coupler will cause unnecessary turbulence with the misalignment. We'll see what happens. I'm not real happy with the original fitment.

Default You get what you pay for...

I've seen them on C6's, and in my opinion there the cheapest looking air intake on the market. There filter is junk, and as for a RAM effect,
what effect can you have when the imcomming air hits the filter element? NONE. Simple physics. The only way it could possibily work is whith no filter element at all. My opinion.
