Default Anyone remove the cats?

Anyone remove the cats on their stock system, ie replace them with x-pipe? Will the o2 sensors be affected? I am looking for an exhaust voice makeover, the stock note sux. I am not looking to spend a grand to make the car sound like a vette. I can either buy a used cat back, remove the cats, or buy the flowmasters, or weld on magnaflow 14335 mufflers. It is difficult enough to convince the wife, just add $1,000 to the mix and convincing becomes impossible . Thanks,
Gene

The cats are bolted to the manifolds with a downpipe welded on the exit side that makes the turn to the mid section. I am not aware of anyone that makes the pieces and they would not be easy to make since they must line up correctly on both ends and the pipes would need to turn in more than one dimension in a fairly short radius. Somebody with the appropriate skills would spend a good chunk of the day making the pipes and then tuning would be mandatory so its not quite as cheap a mod as you might think. There are high flows available that are supposed to add a little oomph but I have not heard them personally. My suggestion would be to buy a used cat back. They can be had for a more reasonable price and are all stainless so unless they have been damaged they are basically good as new.

Call Ernie at Breathless Performance in Dania (Stirling and I 95) to remove your cats and install a longer X pipe. He does all my work. 954-925-7725. Tell him Scott sent you.

Mine are removed with the KOOKS offroad X-pipe. Pretty nasty odor and will probably go back to high flow cats.

Random Exhaust makes a cat & downpipe bolt in replacement for the C6 (Part #s 127003 & 127004)

Looks free flowing from the pics

Are you saying by removing the cats, exhaust odor increases? Not exactly what I want. I am not looking for more power, just a little more sound w/out spending a grand. I can't stand the lexus exhaust. Thanks everyone for your opinions!

I upgraded to LG long tubes with no cats, but before I had custom made a set of cat bypass pipes with the factory flanges, a direct bolt on...$200 + shipping and they are yours. PM me if you are interested.

Regards,
Manuel

PS: Big difference in sound once installed!!!

I have a Magnaflow catback and was planning to put B&B headers without cats, is that sound that much louder without cats?

No doubt the engine odor is really bad. Corsa Sport added much needed sound over sucky stock exhaust, but with the mods I have now the best way to describe it is "Monstrous".

Dont go without cats, not only is it illegal and bad for air quality but, you will forever be known to me as stinkyass. You will hate the exhaust smell so will your wife as will anyone that gets near you car when it is running.

Thanks everyone. It's not worth it to skip the cats, guess a used cat back or flowmasters will be in order!

If you dont want to go the used cat back route ( or you can't find one)just go with the Magnaflow mufflers as you mentioned in your original post. I took that route with a B+B X pipe with high flow cats and the whole setup was $700.

EDIT: posted under Tommy D but its Joey D....oh well.
