Default Is it a Z51?

Hi all,
I'm thinking about buying this C6 from eBay. The sales person said it's not a Z51. I can see that it has crossed drilled rotors. I thought non Z51 doesn't come with drilled rotors, especially for 2006 models. Is there another way to tell if it's a Z51? For example, is it easy to see the tranny cooler?

Yes and no. If it's a non Z51 MN6, it does not have a trans cooler, the auto and Z51 MN6 do have the cooler. An easier way is to look for the power steering cooler that only the Z51 has. It is in front of the engine and to the rear of the radiator. The cross drilled rotors could have been added.

The most exact way is to look in the glove box at the little decal. If it says Z51 then you have a Z51. Ask him to send you a pic of the decal then you'll know everything you are getting.

Thanks for the tip regarding the decal. If you open the glove compartment, is the decal on the door? Or on the sides of the glove box? If I know this, I can tell him where to look and hopefully, a picture. Thanks again.

It will be on the door. He should see it immediately after opening the glove box. It is stuck to the back of the glove box door.

Once you have that pic of the decal and all the little 3-digit codes, we can decipher them and tell you exactly what the car came from the factory with. He may (and it sounds like he did) modify the car a little but knowing what it came with from the factory is helpful in knowing how much the car is worth.

Thank you all, for all that info! Much appreciated. While I'm waiting for the salesman's reply, can I ask a question regarding warranties? Does anyone know anything about factory warranty for Canadians who import used vettes to Canada? I got the impression that if the car is still under warranty, and some work is required, a Canadian owner could drive (if it's still mobile) the car back across the border and that the Chevy dealer will honor the warranty work. I hope that's the case. I've emailed GM USA, but received no anwers. Thanks in advance.

It's on the extreme left side of the inside of the glove box door. Some have missed it.

Technically speaking, the MZ6 is the "wide ratio" transmission...the lower the first gear ratio, the wider the gear ratio jumps have to be to reach 1:1 in fourth gear.

It's ironic that the "close ratio" transmissions have the reputation for being performance transmissions, but it's always been the "wide ratio" transmissions that delivered torque multiplication in the lowest gears. They were required equipment back in the day if you had AC and a manual tranny on a base engine car.

MZ6 is not a stand alone option...if you want MZ6, you have to get Z51.

reeberom 1, all good advice here about the glovebox RPO codes. if your seller has a hard time giving you a picture, get the last 8 numbers of the VIN and your local dealer can tell you if RPO Z51 was part of the original equipment.

Magnetic ride (F55) also has the cross-drilled rotors in '07; don't know in '06. Hope this helps.
