Default c6 wheel weight

As I was putting on my Nitto drag radials (285X35x18) mounted on polished c5 18 inch wheels on the back of my 2007 c6 I noticed a big wt difference compared to the stock c6 (285X35x19) chrome factory wheel. So I decided to post thier wt both inflated to 30#. The factory rear wheels are 64 pounds a piece and the nittos where 48 pounds a piece. I drove over 350 miles with these on the back and the stockers up front and had no codes other then missing sensor related. FYI

64# for the stock rears? That seems about 12# higher than me and what most everyone else who has weighed them came up with.

Default wheel wt

This was a bathroom scale so absolute wt may vary but the difference in wt with the drag radials vs the stock wheel tire combo was at least 16 pounds. Remember this was a new installed fully inflated stock chrome rear wheel and tire.

Awesome info, just what I was looking for.

I'm going to a 19" front / 20" rear wheel which will be somewhat heavier.

How much heavier do you think I could tolerate before seeing a noticable decline in performance? (street use)

not sure, but keep in mind its not just spinning performance (inertia) but suspension performance too.

Default Wheel weight no more than stock to purchase - help!

Thank you for the info! This really helps me go "apples to apples" when I go wheel shopping!

I'm planning on staying with stock sizes (18x8.5 & 19x10)for ease of tire purchase and keeping rotating mass and unsprung weight as low as possible.

However, just want something different than the stock look.

Any suggestions on a good quality wheel in roughly that "dual spoke style" like the Z06? One that weighs no more than stock (hopefully less!), and doesn't cost HRE money? Am I dreaming?

Don't some of the vendors seem to be a bit shy about discussing the weights of their products? Hmmmmm.

BTW, Having had polished alum wheels on my Pantera, they are a pain in the *** to keep looking good! Will go chrome or powder coat this time!

It's not just sheer weight, you also have to take in to account rotational inertia. As wheel diamater increases, so does rotational mass.

here's a good example.

The first car I purchased was a 2002 Mustang GT. With exhaust only, the car ran consisten 14.80's at 96mph in the thin air of colorado.

Later on I added a set of aftermarket wheels to the car. I upsized from 17" wheels to 18" wheels but kept the same total aspect ratio at 26". The rear aftermarket wheels weighed within 1 lb of stock wheels. However, because wheel diameter increased and so did rotational mass.

With the aftermarket wheels in place, the car's 1/4 mile performance dropped to a best of 15.2 at 93mph. The car dropped 3 mph through the traps and the ET increased by 4 tenths.

Anybody? Nobody knows of any light(er) weight stock size C6 wheels that don't cost $4,000 per set? Anybody?

Several days and not a single bit of input from the whole forum? Would love any input anybody has, any experiences driving with the new versus the old too.

thanks!!!

CCW makes a nice one-piece forged split spoke wheel about the same weight as stock for $2600. http://www.ccwheel.com/files/wheelpr...el.php?id=505a Can be chromed, painted, or clear coated for an additional charge. Call John and talk to him about what you want. Good people.

Apparently, GM did a good job on the weight of the standard wheels. I have looked to find something lighter, but so far, no luck. Even the BBS wheels are at least as heavy as the stockers. I have had my car since February of '05 and have been looking off and on since then with no success. CCW seems like the best option for the price, but the BBS also look really good in ads. See the last issue issue of Corvette Magazine. Will

Fikse wheels felt lighter, I felt some of theirs in 19inch, they were
extremely light.

Of course your wallet will be even lighter after dropping $3500 on
a set...

Anyone here know the weight f the stock wheels on the new Z06 for the fronts and rears as well as the combo with stock runflats for the Z06? Looking to see if some weight can be saved with some better tires and lighter wheels from HRE or some other vendor..
