No. Shifting to reverse actually turns the accessory mode off (kills power to everything).
As stated by others the re-flash still requires you to shift to reverse to shut down. That was a federally mandated thing. The feds recinded it for 2006 for whatever reason (was shortsighted ot require GM to do it in 2005 but what government entity works on logic). However the Feds would not let GM go back and delete the requirement on the 2005's. Besides it would more than likely require a computer hardware change. The re-flash addresses the problem completely for 99 plus % of the vehicles. I did not have one problem after the re-flash.
