Chevy's handy work. Take a look...
So, I take the car in for this and the rear gear oil additive. No maoning sound now from the gears at low speeds but, rattle not fixed.
Take it in again, to another Dealer, thinking maybe the other guys are just retarded, right?
2 Days later, oh yeah, it's back. So I decided to fix it myself. When I took my door panel off here's what they did to fix it....
As much as I love Corvette (and this is my 5th) Chevy has some pretty weak moments when you compare them to some Imports in the same price range.
I'd also like to mention how lame the center console displays are while I'm here. Does it remind anyone else of a 1980's Casio watch? That's the best they had, huh? And just think some knucklehead approved that. Even the C5 had a better center console.

Jack the Dog says: Nice glue & foam job, can I chew on that?
Of course you (and others) know that already and yes some dealerships are better than others but I just get a little concerned when people start knocking GM/Chevrolet/Team Corvette while forgetting that the car IS a true marvel of engineering AND quality simply for the fact that NO OTHER manufacturer foreign or otherwise has been able to duplicate it for the price.
I think a lot of people and I'll include myself, buy this car mainly for the looks first. Not everyone, but a lot. I'm addicted. I bought one a year, for three years straight. I love' em but get some better interior designers... maaaan.
You are right though, the Chevy service (or any other car maker) can be pretty weak at times.
Happy Holidays!!!
The Best of Corvette for Corvette Enthusiasts
I drove BMWs for over 20 years and while I continue to like BMW....they had their fair share of problems too. Nothing's perfect.
BTW, what was the actual source of the rattle and did it get fixed?

A friend of mine bought a Nissan Maxima. It had a rattle in the trunk. There were two metal braces back there that rattled occasionaly. They were wrapped with foam and the problem was solved. I'd say any dealer from any make would have done the same thing this dealer did. The problem is solved. Unless you are going to take your door apart you will never know that they did a repair with sheets of foam. Really, who cares, it's out of sight, out of mind and out of SOUND.
If you want the dash to be more to your liking, then tell me you would be willing to spend more. GM can make the Vette better. The issue is are we the consumer willing to spend lots more to buy a slightly improved product. I for one would rather have the almost perfect car that I have and get the most bang for the buck.
Another thing to remember is Chevrolet intentionally left some noise suppression materials out of this car. It's a sports car first and foremost, so weight is a big issue. When you start throwing insulation everywhere to make the car quieter and more rattle free you end up with a slower less sporty vehicle.
Another C6 improvement: the Vette team put a lot of engineering time into picking the manual shift ****, and I think it's one of the most comfortable ones I've used (much better than the C5). And I can't forget the cheaply made C5 cup holder lid (cover). Simple, holds two cups, and not prone to break like the C5's (in which case, you had to remove the center console and replace the whole cupholder as it was a single unit).

I believe it was the giant purple plug (clip) that is actually mounted to the panel on a strange plastic swivel. I think it was rubbing. And when GM added the foam, it still rubbed on that, and still made a squeeky sound like a rapid heart rate... very annoying, of course. Dynamat cures this no problem. I just used regular, I didn't even need to use the Extreme Dynamat (which I have), so a pretty simple fix.
I will say reinstalling the door panel sucked. That was a pain getting the upper clips to set correctly.
And my final point about GM gripes.
That's part of what this forum is for. The good and bad. That's what makes this car great, and can make it better.
The bottom line to improvement for GM in my opinion lies in their SERVICE. I can forgive a lot of the little querks, after all, the Vette is a bit of a tinker-mobile. But the Customer Service and the SERVICE itself has much need for improvement. Buy a Lexus in the same price range or less and drive it to their service bay. Take note on how well you and your car are treated. And how nice the service bay looks too.
