Default Chevy's handy work. Take a look...

So there's an annoying rattle in my door (next to my head almost).
So, I take the car in for this and the rear gear oil additive. No maoning sound now from the gears at low speeds but, rattle not fixed.

Take it in again, to another Dealer, thinking maybe the other guys are just retarded, right?

2 Days later, oh yeah, it's back. So I decided to fix it myself. When I took my door panel off here's what they did to fix it....

As much as I love Corvette (and this is my 5th) Chevy has some pretty weak moments when you compare them to some Imports in the same price range.

I'd also like to mention how lame the center console displays are while I'm here. Does it remind anyone else of a 1980's Casio watch? That's the best they had, huh? And just think some knucklehead approved that. Even the C5 had a better center console.

Jack the Dog says: Nice glue & foam job, can I chew on that?

While I do understand your frustration over this I do have to point out that NO import nameplate on the planet offers this combination of performance/acceleration/handling/braking, fuel eceonomy, style, ride comfort and luxury accoutrements in that same price range you speak of, as a matter of fact none come even remotely close. And this is just the LS2 cars I'm talking about, forget the Z06.
Of course you (and others) know that already and yes some dealerships are better than others but I just get a little concerned when people start knocking GM/Chevrolet/Team Corvette while forgetting that the car IS a true marvel of engineering AND quality simply for the fact that NO OTHER manufacturer foreign or otherwise has been able to duplicate it for the price.

There are a lot of things that could be done better is my point on this topic. There seems to be a common lazy or sloppyness that I read about here more than I would like. And in the 3 C5's and 1 C6 I've owned I have experienced it first hand too much.

I think a lot of people and I'll include myself, buy this car mainly for the looks first. Not everyone, but a lot. I'm addicted. I bought one a year, for three years straight. I love' em but get some better interior designers... maaaan.

One thing I have noticed on this forum which I find disturbing, everyone complains about their cars. If you don't like it, sell it and find something that makes you happy. I for one love my Corvette!!!

You are right though, the Chevy service (or any other car maker) can be pretty weak at times.

Happy Holidays!!!

The rattle isn't something that's bitten me yet, but I'd be interested in reading what you do to fix it (since it looks like Chevy won't or can't). Nice dog!

While I admit there's always room for improvement, I don't have any major complaints with my C6 (the dealership is another story). My C6 has also been remarkably reliable.

I drove BMWs for over 20 years and while I continue to like BMW....they had their fair share of problems too. Nothing's perfect.

BTW, what was the actual source of the rattle and did it get fixed?

A friend of mine bought a Nissan Maxima. It had a rattle in the trunk. There were two metal braces back there that rattled occasionaly. They were wrapped with foam and the problem was solved. I'd say any dealer from any make would have done the same thing this dealer did. The problem is solved. Unless you are going to take your door apart you will never know that they did a repair with sheets of foam. Really, who cares, it's out of sight, out of mind and out of SOUND.

If you want the dash to be more to your liking, then tell me you would be willing to spend more. GM can make the Vette better. The issue is are we the consumer willing to spend lots more to buy a slightly improved product. I for one would rather have the almost perfect car that I have and get the most bang for the buck.

Another thing to remember is Chevrolet intentionally left some noise suppression materials out of this car. It's a sports car first and foremost, so weight is a big issue. When you start throwing insulation everywhere to make the car quieter and more rattle free you end up with a slower less sporty vehicle.

Sorry about your problem. Have to disagree with you about the center console. I thought the C5 console was beginning to look awfully dated (especially the radio/CD group), but, hey, that's just another opinion.

Another C6 improvement: the Vette team put a lot of engineering time into picking the manual shift ****, and I think it's one of the most comfortable ones I've used (much better than the C5). And I can't forget the cheaply made C5 cup holder lid (cover). Simple, holds two cups, and not prone to break like the C5's (in which case, you had to remove the center console and replace the whole cupholder as it was a single unit).

I was able to fix it by putting small Dynamat strips in a few strategic areas. No big deal just a couple slices of a spare sheet I had around.

I believe it was the giant purple plug (clip) that is actually mounted to the panel on a strange plastic swivel. I think it was rubbing. And when GM added the foam, it still rubbed on that, and still made a squeeky sound like a rapid heart rate... very annoying, of course. Dynamat cures this no problem. I just used regular, I didn't even need to use the Extreme Dynamat (which I have), so a pretty simple fix.
I will say reinstalling the door panel sucked. That was a pain getting the upper clips to set correctly.

And my final point about GM gripes.
That's part of what this forum is for. The good and bad. That's what makes this car great, and can make it better.
The bottom line to improvement for GM in my opinion lies in their SERVICE. I can forgive a lot of the little querks, after all, the Vette is a bit of a tinker-mobile. But the Customer Service and the SERVICE itself has much need for improvement. Buy a Lexus in the same price range or less and drive it to their service bay. Take note on how well you and your car are treated. And how nice the service bay looks too.

It is this kind of response and attitude that gives Chevrolet carte blanche to not fix something right the first time. The guy posting didn't state he didn't like his Corvette but that he didn't like how things were poorly put together. When someone complains around here what do alot of people do? Well rather than complain about the problem as well, they tend to bash the person with the complaint. He stated he loved his Corvette but that he had a problem with their Service and Customer Service. Some people around here are willing to bash the complainer until it is them with the complaint. And to tell you the truth, they should have put the dynomate,Acoustishield, dampening mat in it in the first place. Little things do add up to make a better product. The Corvette is a great product and continues to be improved upon but it is the little things that set it apart from being truly great.

Merry Christmas to all!
