Default skip shift elim.

I have a 2005 mag red. The check eng. light was on so I took it to a dealer to have it checked, according to them it was from the skip shift eliminator. Since this was not under warranty thay charged me $160.00 to check it out. Has anyone had this happen to them.

Sure have.
The eliminator went bad. You need a new one.
My dealer only charged me $60 to diagnose the problem though.

If you have an OBDII reader, will it tell you if you have a problem assuming the light comes on?

I hope it will. I know mine will read all of the Jaguar codes in addition to the smog ones. I hope it will read the C6 codes in addition to the smog ones. It is CAN compatable.

Thanks! I had a problem with the stability control on my other car and the reader would not read the code. It is an SPX unit that I have.

I bought an Innova 3110 about six months ago. I tried it on the C6 and it recognized the car but I didn't have any codes. I'm sure my day is coming.

guys, if you don't have a code reader take it to your local parts store, like auto zone. they will pull the codes for you FOR FREE. you don't need paid these high $$ techs to tell you what codes you have. it takes me 5 sec to pull codes. if you are local to me i would charge you "free" to do this, have a great holiday.

Gotta' give my local dealer credit, they didn't charge me for diagnosing a failed CAGS eliminator. Weseloh in San Juan Capistrano, diagnosis = "recommend removing aftermarket resistor." The CAGS eliminator had basically gone open circuit, read 194k ohms after I removed it from the car.

Default Are all CAGS created equal?

I just pulled a code on my c6. It was for the CAGS Solenoid. I guess that my CAGS eliminator has failed. I have only had the eliminator on for 4months and 8kMi.

What kind of longevity have other forum members had with these units, and where did you get yours?

My eliminator from Mid-America failed after only a few weeks. A new one from Zip has been on for 6 months with no problems ( the 2 units looked very different!).

I have had the Radio Shack 2k resister in mine for 2 years without any issues. It also cost less that a buck.

Actually, I will program the Skip shift out with EFILive and not worry about the problem.
