Default Timing sets with cam install....?

Anyone here thats put a cam in the C6, have you also put on a duel timing set, or remained with the stock? I wasn't sure , as I 'm going to throw a cam in later in Jan and when I did it with an ls-6 and ls-1 motor, it was recommended that the timing set was part of the install. Thanks for any input!!

I'd say stay single chain/ gears and also add that you should change the oil pump to one of the high volume units now available from either Scoggins-Dickey or Melling.

The Ls2s are pretty decent. I did not change mine when I did the first cam swap, but did the second go round after damaging the cam gear when I dropped a lifter. The stocker held up just fine. They are not too expensive, so if it makes you sleep better you can go ahead and swap, but I don't think its needed.

So you guys are saying the timing set isn't a nessesity, but to go with a better oil pump? I didn't get one of those until I sc'd my LS1/6 motors after heads/cam pkg. Just want to be clear on the whole set up before work starts so I won't have to go back anytime soon.

The timing chain is the same one as they put in the Z06, so it's more than enough for your cam swap. As for the oil pump, have you ever read of an LSx motor dying due to oil starvation? It might be good peace of mind, but unnecessary, it's your call though.

The only time I've heard of oil starvation is on road tracks, high speed sharp turns and the such. I appreciate all input as I'll be doing the install soon and will need to place orders. Like I stated before, the only time I used an aftermarket oil pump was the mellings and was on sc'd motors. I did go with the duel timing set up with the heads and cam set ups, but that was with the older ls-1's and 6's.
