Default Any negative comments...

Any negative comments on the addition of a cam,160 stat,lg longtubes and a tune. Just was wondering if anyone has had bad side effects of any of these componets. I want just over 400/425 rwhp with maintaining 100% road manners and drivablity. I feel that this is a good set up and am hoping it won't cause any issues down the road.Your input is greatly appreciated as work will begin in a couple of weeks.THANKS!!

These cars really wake up with a proper cam/header/tuning set up.
I'm not speaking from first hand experience here but I have been in and around A LOT of cammed/heads and cammed cars and the most critical advise I can offer is don't go too big on the cam if it's still being used primarily as a street car. Too many people are wowed by these big dyno numbers so they buy the ultra big, super lopey cams and they all too often end up with driveability/idle issues and not going all that quick/fast at the track anyway. Bigger isn't always better.
I'd suggest Cartek Racing (www.cartek.net) for a package such as this.

Yeah...I've done the "big" cam before...great dyno #'s but hell in traffic. The cam the tech and I selected is mild, very streetable from what he's told me. Thanks for the input.

I'm assuming, your getting springs, push rods etc too...
You will need a good cold air intake like a vararam also.
Thats all I had and I was over 430 RWHP.
400 will be simple.

I've got the K&N cai, and yes, the dual springs, hardened pushrods..etc are part of it as well. I was just fishing for any bad results from these mods that I may encounter, so far, no one has any bad input, but thats great.

I swear these motors do not need a huge cam. On my stroker I had a.248/.254 and it ran like *** and was really flat. I put a custom grind much smaller cam in and the thing pulls quite nicely. Get a good set of heads, a cam and headers and you will blow your 400 mark away.

I just re-read that you didn't want to go heads. I had a decent cam and long tubes and was over 400.

I had thought about the new offerings from GM as far as the heads go, but will give the current set up a try. I'm not sure of the cam specs yet, but was told by Jeff at Carolina Auto Masters it was either a hellraiser or hellraiser lite....perfect for someone with the moniker"Evilways"...

Do you mean your only mod other than head/cam is vararam? Which cam did you use? I wonder which cam gives 400+ rwhp yet very quiet and stable idle.
