Burning the clutch?
What does a burnt/burning clutch smell like? Every once in awhile I notice a strange smell from my car. Sort of like something burning. Now I'm not the best driver in the world but I certainly don't think I'm riding the clutch or abusing it at all. It doesn't happen all the time or even very often but occasionally I notice it. So my questions are. What does a burnt.burning clutch smell like? If it can be described. And under what circumstances are you most likely to start burning the clutch? Also how bad is it and how much damage does it cause over time?

similiar to 'burnt brakes' i.e. riding with the e-brake on, but with a hint of rubber.

Thanks
i didn't check but if you've got an early '05 you may have the "6k rpm shift issue". in early '05's the 'return springs' in the clutch plate weren't strong enough to overcome the centrifigul forces inside the clutch, causing insufficient clamping forces which in turn causes severe slippage.
or you could be e making more power than your clutch is built for and causing it to slip when you get on it. it can be kinda touchy if it's borderline.
if you really wanna know what a burn clutch smells like simply hold the clutch halfway and go full throttle (slowly) but don't release the clutch, just hold it halfway. that will glaze it up pretty good.
btw: burnt clutch lingers longer than burnt rubber.
constant burning or even one good one will glaze the clutch and will lead to slippage, etc.
