Default How many miles before mods/tune?

I'm curious how long most of the modders in here waited before installing bolt-ons and having a custom tune. Did you wait for the 500 break-in miles and jump on it, or did you give it some more time? I've read that the LS2 "wakes up" after a couple thousand miles.

I'm at 250 miles now and it's making me having to wait!

Thanks in advance!

Well, I was thinking at a minimum I'd wait the mandatory "break-in" 500 before having the tuners push it on a dyno.

I did all of my mods right at about 400 miles (Kooks headers, Kooks high flow cats/with mid-pipe, Corsa sport exhaust). It didn't seem to affect anything. Good luck!

i wouldnt worry about bolt ons or a tune affecting anything break-in related.......

however, i wouldn't put my car on the dyno before the manufactors recommended break-in.

I started modding with bolt ons after about 2000 miles.

I like your style, I too was romping on my '06 Z at around 60 miles or so. 500 miles, who needs some stinky 500 miles?

Thanks

800 miles, that was how far I had to drive it from the dealer in Kansas City to Austin. Was nice and broken in when I got home that night. 11 hour drive.
Kooks long tube, high flow cats, x pipe, borla, vararam, preadator, 160 stat.

We've done lots of brand new off the floor cars here, incl. supercharging and dyno pulls. If they are brand new, we usually do a heat cycle on the dyno bone stock for initial break-in. We have 2 07 C6's in here right now with one getting an APS kit and another getting a Magnacharger both have less than 100miles.

the vette a few 1000 before mods just to make sure that everything was working ok.

The SS Trailblazer I just bought I am at 200 miles and mods are happening

At ECS I see cars that come directly from the dealership right to the lift for changes

I’m all for modifying one’s car but you might ask yourself how important is your factory warranty? My local dealership is aggressive in denying warranty service for anything even remotely related to a performance modification. I was told even something as innocuous as a tune would likely jeopardize warranty work on an engine and possibly more due to the factory specs being altered. I understand why and frankly I wouldn’t expect GM to pay for warranty work on an altered vehicle. If your warranty is a concern, you might ask the service manager at your local dealership what their position is prior to making a performance mod.

The provisions of the Moss-Magnusson Warranty Act may afford some ‘protection’ of warranty services but IMO and for all practical purposes it will be virtually impossible to fight GM should they elect to deny warranty service.

IMO modify your C6 as soon as you want but be willing to accept the likely loss of warranty service related to the modification and be willing to bear the financial consequences.

My 2005 C6 has been exceptionally reliable and trouble-free and my desire to modify it outweighed any concerns I had about the loss of warranty services. I owned my C6 about 17 months before I had the LPE 403 motor installed and performed some other modifications (with a few more mods coming soon).
