Default 07 Rear End

About a month ago there was an interesting thread here regarding the possibility that in 07 the C6 and Z share the heavier 9" rear. There were respected authorities on both sides, yea or nay... That thread sort of fizzled out without conclusion.

Since then, I've only noticed some reference that the 06 and 07 are different, but nothing further on the above.

So, how about it? Lou from LG, Rodney from RPM, Phil from DTE, what say you? Anybody else know for sure? It's been 6-7 months now. What have we got for rear ends in these 07s?

TIA -

Why would GM add cost? These are the same guys that removed the hoodlamp to save money.

I would believe them putting the C6 diff in the ZO6, before the ZO6 diff in the C6.

Just my opinion.

Why would we first hear about this significant change so late in the model year?

Adding the cost of a rear change could also be why they needed to save money removing things like the hoodlamp and glove box lock as well.

That being said there was already an upgrade to the C6 LS2's rear for 2006, I doubt it got another one in 2007.
Z06s on the other hand may have had some changes for 2007.

Yeah, you're probably right. I wondered though, if GM was having to repair enough rears under warranty, maybe it would be cheaper in the end to put the stout rear in all C6s?

Default 9 inch

They changed the gear size to 9in so yes it is the same 9in size as a Z06 but no it is not a Z06 rear end thru and thru.

I will buy that since the 9" great is most likely the same as a pickup. So with the reduction in SKUs and the volume of the trucks, this may result in a cost reduction for GM.

Sorry if I am always suspect of GM "giving us something for nothing", but I deal with car companies all day and they are driven by cost reductions, not customer satisfaction.

I am being told by the performance shops that my 07C6A6 has the same rearend but different gears. Some kind of equation like the actual gear ratio is 2.83 but with the A6 the final ratio is 3.96. I asked the guy selling the 4.10 ratio rearends about this and have been waiting 4 days for a reply. I am like everyone else, just tell me what I got and what can I do to make it better......Please someone tell all of us what the he#$ we got.

Why dont you ask LG since he said it in his post and owns both models. He took them both apart. Stop the rumor mill and go to the source. I would think a tuner would know better than the 'I dont that GM would...' guy.

When Geoff at NLP put a DTE brace on my 07 they had to modify it because the 07 diff is different than the 06 diff. You could call DTE they shoud know for sure. Or you could talk to Geoff at NLP he could tell you what is different.
