Default No Mufflers???

I have Magnaflow kit installed. Has anyone ever tried a system with no muffler? I was thinking of having a muffler shop fabricate the rear section of the over-the-axle part to eliminate the muffers for racing only applications. Will the lack of back pressure hurt anything besides my neighbor's ears?

I've done this on both my 06 MN6 and my 07 A6. I had a muffler shop fabricate a section to replace to stock muffler cans. Suprisingly it's not that loud. But sound is a relative thing. I haven't received complaints from neighbors or pulled over so it must be alright. It's a really deep rumble that gets higher pitched as you move through the RPM band. It didn't trip any codes and the car seems to be running just fine. The salesman I bought the cars from even loved the sound. There is some gurgle and pop on deacceleration but it sounds mean! You could always try it before spending the cash on a catback.

I would like to put the qtp cutouts on, 1 pipe through stock cans and 1 pipe straight out back, cut off the stock tips and put matching tips on (1 from stock and 1 from the cutout). I haven't figured out where to snake the wire for the cutout switch. I am still in the thinking stage. No rush, I have the Bullets and they sound great.

I did the exact thing on my 07C6A6 just a few weeks ago for $250.86 and with the stock madifold and h-pipe it sounds awesome. I did go to an aftermarket tip that has a 2 1/2 inlet like the stock exhaust, the stock tips on the mufflers are smaller than 2". I did not do any dyno tests but it at least sounds like a muscle car and performance well the 12.51 @113 speaks for itself.....yet as few little other mods but I want someone with a stock exhaust to try the intake mods and see what their car runs, I know we would alll like to know. I have had guys with over $1200 cat-backs take them off and put the same what I call red neck cat-back system on.......I love it.

If you are running a street class you have to have mufflers.

When I put my straight pipes the reduced back pressure increased the ponies a bit. Sound is great.

Usually a "no back pressure" system will lose torque down low in the RPM band.

No back presure , correct. But reduced back pressure helps both ends of the spectrum.

1 3/4" LTs, to a 2" collector to a 3" exhuast. Unless you have a Big block or a 427 then a 1 7/8" LT header.
