Default Gasket Reuse?

I'm busily modding my 2005 C6 coupe, and was wondering. Is it ok to reuse the intake manifold gaskets, also how about the exhaust manifold gaskets? My guess is that its ok to reuse the intake gaskets because they are just o-rings, but not the exhaust gaskets since they are aluminum, but I just wanted to see anyone on the forum knows for sure.

Yes you can use the intake gaskets again. As for the exhaust, I'm sure technically you are not supposed to, but I have read here that many members have suggested doing so, claiming the OEM used are still better than some of the new aftermarket ones.

I haven't seen the new gaskets (or the old ones), and I'm kind of old school, so bear with me. How much do new gaskets cost, and is it worth the trouble to use the old ones during the re-install versus having an old gasket fail and having to do the job over again?

But you were asking for opinions from folks that know for sure, and that isn't me. I would invest in new gaskets and toss the old ones, if it were me.

Good luck.

Don

I just installed LG headers on my 05 vette.I went down to my local Chevy dealer and picked up a set of exhaust gaskets for about $30.00 I can't see investing over a thousand dollars on headers just to skimp on the $15.00 a piece gaskets, which by the way are the same gaskets the car comes with from the factory.
Anyway just my .02 cents

Replace all of them. It's cheap insurance and better than having one fail and redoing your work.

Thanks guys, its time to visit my local Chevy dealer and buy some exhaust gaskets. I guess when I buy the exhaust gaskets, I'll price the intake gaskets and if they are cheap I'll go ahead and order them too, but if they cost a fortune, I'll just use the ones I have. Thanks for the help.

Exhaust gaskets and intake gaskets are re-usable. I am still using the original gaskets that came on my '98 Z28 car with the single setup that is on there now...and they are holding up great

I have had both intake and exhaust gaskets on and off my car so many times, I forgot the number (12? times). I have never replaced them since the car was new....ie, same ones it came with. Saying you paid over 1k for headers and using that as a reason to change them is a waste of money. Needless to say, I have never had a leak. If you inspect them and there is no bend in the metal or tear in the rubber what issue can you have and why would you change them?

Well considering that the exhaust gaskets are easy enough to change even if they do leak, I'll put them back on and see how it goes. I do like to save a couple bucks where I can. Mods are expensive enough. Thanks.

We use to use all the time reuse the old gaskets and put the non-harding Permatex gasket material on both sides. I don't why that wouldn't work on flat gaskets today.

Even on the oldest 2005 the intake gaskets are reuseable.

yep I re-used my intake gaskets on my 98 TransAm probably had the intake off in excess of 5 or 6 times to do various mods and stuff, always used the same gaskets and no problems, this was even a supercharged car! also reused the exaust and head gaskets they're MLS and hold up well.
