Is it advisable(safe) to start a car while it is supported by four jack stands or could this result in disaster?
Would revving it possibly make it unstable?
I have done it w/o any problems. I guess it comes down to how risk adverse you are. When I installed my new exhaust I ran the car & checked for leaks & revved it to check out sound. Then again, I don't wear seat belts & wear a non- DOT approved helmet when I ride my bike. If your really worried get ramps, you can even use four. Drive up the first set, chalk tires, jack up opposite end place ramps under tires. Definately not going anywhere.

Thanks for the input.
If the car is stable and you support the rear lower control arms to keep drive axles horizontial and do not rev engine you should be OK. I would not get under the car.
2. Why did you put wood between the jack stands and the rear end support? Thats what its designed for.
3. You do know that for the 3 thing involved with it being on jackstands the wood is the most likely to fail. Just my .02. Would hate for you to get home and something nasty happen to your car.
4. Why did you put wood under the tires? You know they make mats for that right?

Check this link out. That is what I went by. The wood under the tires is to raise the car high enough to get a jack under it.
