Default Question for the tech guys ??

With a Comp Cam lets say a 224/226 do you need to go with AFR heads 205 or will porting original heads be just as good. There is a big difference in cost. Any help and info would be appreciated. I am looking for 80 to 100 hp. I noticed Cartek and other big name companies are only porting with that size cam.

Better head flow compliments the camshaft. There is no "need" to port, or run an aftermarket head, but it helps and if you want the horsepower numbers you mention, a good head is a must. Which head you choose is a personal choice based on a little research and how much money you want to spend. I've run ported stock castings and aftermarket castings on my car and I feel I got more grunt out of the aftermarket castings. I run ET currently but don't want to start a pissing contest on which head is the best. There is a bunch of info out there. Check the for sale forums here and on LS1tech. You will find deals on heads all the time.

Par34n5,
We can run you through the pros and cons of each if you like. Getting 80 to 100 HP is no problem at all. Give us a call or send me a PM. We would love to to help.

Default Did mine in stages.

Maybe this info will help;
First stage; kooks LT, magnaflow cat back, 160 stat, stinger air intake
tunning. 377rwhp/370twtq.

Second stage; 224/228/581/588/114LSA cam& springs, tunning.
410rwhp/384rwtq

Third stage; FAST 90 manifold tunning 425rwhp/405rwtq

Fourth stage; 215 ET heads tunning 461rwhp/435rwtq.

Fifth and FINAL stage; in progress. stroked L92 block CNC L92 heads
232/234/595/598/112LSA cam. It's a little shy of 427 cubes
I have no clue as to power. A&A corvette thinks it should
be a monster.

Anyway this should give you an idea of the power potential
at given stages of modifications.
