Default z06 shifter

I'm going to put Z06 clutch in my C6, do any of you know if the shifter itself is diferent from regular C6 shifter, and if any of the after market shifters is better than stock Z06 shifters? Can I get away with staying with my stock shifter? Thanks

the stick of both are the same... the base unit of the Z06 shifter is different (it is a shorter throw than stock)

i also had a B&M shifter for a while it is a very short throw shifter.... (do a search on "shifter" and find lots of info)

i am currently using the Z06 unit (complete)... here is a pic of the throw...

So you are using the Z06 stick and base on a regular C6?

You are correct. I have one ready to install and it does have ZO6 stamped on the base.

Don't know if the Z06 shifter is actually shorter throw than the standard shifter. I just went out and measured mine using the middle line in the shift pattern on the ****, and got 4.5", which looks about the same in these pictures (hard to tell from the angle of the shot). What I do know is that the Z06 shifter uses solid metal mounting bushings, whereas the standard shifter uses metal sleaved rubber bushing to reduce vibration. Some Z06 owners have complained about buzzing or rattling shifters, so be ready to accept that if you go with the Z06 shifter.

The clutch won't know the difference between the LS2 or LS7 shifters.

Both shifters are IDENTICAL

The base plate is what makes them different
The zo6 has a shorter throw

but not a shorter shifter in size !

Assuming a pre 2008 ZO6 shifter and base plate will be a direct replacement for a stock shifter. The standard C6 shifter and base plate is different from a ZO6 shifter and base plate is that the throw is shorter because ( WHY ) ? The standard C6 box has rubber bushings with metal inserts and the ZO6 box as of 2008 has solid mount which was modified by GM because of rattles and etc. So If you replace the rubber bushings in a standard C6 box mount and use a ZO6 shifter and base plate you will get a shorter shift with no vibrations or noise for the most part. The best of both worlds with OEM parts ?

We carry a "modified Z06 Shifter" we call the TPS 427 Shifter... it has a 30% shorter throw than a Z06 shifter and is based on the 2010 Z06 Shifter. We only sell it for $219.99 with Free Shipping to your door.

Nope! Z06 and C-6 are one in the same shifter!

There are two separate components:

1. Shifter. This is bolted solid to the shifter box. It moves the rod in the shifter box which is connected to the transmission. The Z06 and base shifters are the same.

2. Shifter box. This is mounted to the torque tube and contains the shifter rod that connects to the trans. The base shifter box has rubber bushings in the mount to the shifter box but the Z06 does not. The Z06 box mounting tabs are thicker since there bushings and metal sleeve are gone.

Vibration from the torque tube can cause the shifter assembly to buzz or rattle at various RPMs on the Z06 box. The bushings can fail with the base mount and resulting in poor shifter alignment and difficulty in up/down shifting, vibration, and rattling.
