Default Low Stock Dyno Numbers?

Hi,

I had my 1,700 mile A6 07 coupe dyno'd yesterday so I had a baseline before starting to mod. I was expecting around 330 on 4th gear as many others have here, but the numbers were not even close :-(

The numbers were 318/hp 324/tq SAE corrected, which made me wonder if something is wrong with my car...

I know the car has less than 2,000 miles and others indicated that they get stronger with time, but looking at the dyno below does anyone have other suggestions for me?

These number are closer to my A4 C5 with a tune and blackwing instead of a 400hp car IMHO...

I am very happy with the car and it feels very strong, but looking at the numbers I am a little disappointed.

Suggestions are welcome,
Luis

Default C5 dyno sample...

Enclosed is the dyno of my C5 before and after tuning & CAI.
I know it is on a different range of engine revs, but just wondering :-(
Regards,
Luis

the first dyno for my a6 was with only 800 miles on the clock. i pulled 336 with a corsa catback and vararam(negligible on dyno). sounds like your computer is doing some weird things. a tune should clear that up. i had a dyno right after my headers install, no tune, and i pulled 353. when i came back a little over 2 weeks later to get a tune and TB port, i could only pull a 340. computers are crazy things sometimes.

i now have 1k miles, headers(1 7/8" kooks), tune, TB port, TB spacer, vararam, and corsa catback and pulled 366RWHP/363RWTQ thanks to chuck at HPE.

this is all SAE corrected of course.

Your air fuel ratios are not that bad. There is a dip in the blue line indicating that the computer pulled some timing. The computer will pull timing on any inlet air temps over 86F. Did you dyno with the hood open? If not, try that. You may also try a 160 thermostat, it made my car more consistent. On my first stock pull I made 334 with my A6. The very next pull the computer pulled timing and I only got 316. With the 160 stat and headers I made 359, then 360 on the very next pull.

Your A/F ratios are not bad.

What gear did they dyno it in?

A few miles should take care of it. But what gear did they dyno it in? Also, was the car pretty hot when it was put on the dyno.

Around here, its about a 30mile-35 mile plus drive to the dynojet. If they put your car on the dyno no sooner than you get there, or only a short time after you get there, that could play a role too.

Why on the dyno so soon? I believe 5000 miles is the magic number.

I'll bet it was at max engine temp!

Mine came in even lower initially 308/314. Later I heard from a couple of folks that this shop would let cars (w/stock stat) sit and idle to max temps then do the baseline. Then after adding bolt ons, including a lower temp stat of course, produce "amazing" numbers for the dyno print out.

So I "gained" 57 HP / 50 Tq at the wheels with CAI/Headers/stat, and the "claimed" gain at the flywheel from these bolt ons was 70 HP / 60 TQ, says so right on the dyno printout.

Thanks to all for the comments.

glennhl: Thanks for the info, didn't know the stock car would pull that much timing! Guess I'll have to upgrade my HPTuners to USB to at least log the car...

Fore58: I am getting the bug for more power, too many guys here with 500+rwhp :-)

DZOM Z51: It was dyno'ed in 4th gear...Dyno'ed straight from them drive there.

StarJack: I believe that's exactly what happened, thanks for your honest answer...

This car is great, just not what I expected at the dyno...I can only imagine what it will dyno when the temp is 90+!!

Regards,
Luis

Don't worry...........sounds like car was hot. That makes a BIG difference (I've seen it a few times with results similar to yours). Also, dynos vary. I'm sure there's nothing wrong with your car.
