I was coming home the other day in typical Los Angeles stop and go traffic when I decided to use the Manual Shift mode. After engaging that mode, I noticed that the trany would not shift into 1st gear. It would display (1) in the HUD, but it would not be in 1st gear, up-shift to 2nd and HUD would display (2) and there was no noticable difference (meaning it was still in 2nd gear). Up-shift to 3rd, 4th, all good, but down shifting would not go to 1st. Dealer has the car and identified the issue as a failure in the "Valve Body", still waiting for the part. Anyone else experience this issue?
Note: I checked the Trans Temp on the DIC at the failure time and it registered 217 degrees, seems high but I don't know the operating ranges of the transmission. Once I got the car moving at highway speed, the Trans temp dropped to 169, that is a 50 degree swing, FYI.
Have 6500mi on mine, (10mo. old) had the same exp. last week. I tried shifting back to drive then down to S, no joy on getting first gear. At home shut the car off restarted and on test drive all was good. Have since tried to get the problem to come back but no joy. Not worth going to the dealer yet.
That 217 degree temp might've had something to do with it...it's not dangerously high but it's high enough that the tranny computer may have intervened to protect itself, a safeguard so to speak.
