I need to clarify its location. also, is it possible to change without pulling the engine? anyone got pics or a step-by-step?

I had one replaced and it is accessible from under the car. Somewhere near the starter I believe?
No engine pull.

so it's not part of the timing set? I thought I heard/read that it was part of the timing sprocket.

Just checked service manual....CMP sensor is 3 pin Metri-Pack located drivers side, an inch or twp above the front lip of oil pan.

The cam sensor is on the front of the engine, on the left side of the harmonic balancer. If you must change it, you are in for a pretty large job. One of its bolts is under the balancer so you must remove the balancer, but to remove the balancer you must remove the steering rack. Good luck, it's not hard, just a bit of work...

Sensor is on the front cover upper right as shown but If you do not have a LS2 cam sprocket it cannot be read by the sensor.

ah, gotchya--was hoping for something illustrating where it's located on an assembled engine. I'm trying to learn this stuff but man, I'm dense with mechanical.
