Default Engine mods in California?

I live in LA. I'm wondering what additional performance mods I can put on my C6 - A6 without violating California emission standards or my warranty ... if any.

I have a Hurricane CAI and B&B Route 66 Exhaust System already. Is there anything else I should look at or is that as far as I can go?

You are pretty much done. You could port your intake, but that's minimal gains on an otherwise stock car. Cat-back exhaust is essentially sound only, no HP.

CARB won't let you go to longtube headers or go into the engine at all.

You have already exceeded the rules. No air intake has been approved by CARB that I know of.

I believe AFR heads are CARB legal. Your best bet if you want no worries is to get a procharger kit. Or I think STS rear mount twin turbos have CARB now, but I haven't heard a lot of good things about the rear mounts.

An ATI ProCharger P-1SC-1 is 50 state legal, and will give you a huge increase in horsepower. Check this one out.

Here is a link to the kit that was used in the above car.

Take a look here...

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show....php?t=1664399

Nice gains with shorter headers (not long tubes) and some other minor mods. While he has his cats removed... you could leave yours in (lose about 5-7 rwhp) but you could also do an underdrive crank pulley and gain about 8 rwhp back. Food for thought.

I've heard the supercharging nullifies the warranty and it is difficult to reprogram the computer with the A6 paddle shifters (which I have). Is this correct?

Also, heard that whatever HP I add at the flywheel I'll lose 25-30% at the rear wheel with the A6.

Up in Crestline California the typical smog rules don't apply. Maybe you can rent a cabin for a week or 2 and use the address to smog and register your car. Go fishing, boating, or snowboarding while your at it.Theres 4 differrent lakes up there in them hills. If youre REAL lucky you may even score a chick with all her teeth....just an idea

STS TT system http://www.ststurbo.com/c6_data_sheet. 500 RWHP, CARB legal, and you can do it yourself. What more could you ask for in a mod? Warranty is another issue though.

Adding performance and maintaining warranty is the far greater issue. Speak to your dealer's service departments personnel and get a better understanding of what they consider "warranty breakers".

From a performance standpoint, any CARB approved modifications will pass emissions. This includes several supercharger kits and at least one turbo kit.

Good luck and don't let any "used car salesman types" talk you into something less than you want.

its a new car.. you wont have to smog for liek 6 or 7 years after purchasing, so I really wouldnt worry about it... in that amount of time, will you even still have the car? If you sell it before this time period is up you dont need to get it smog either, only the car was not purchased originally in california.

Go here for SMOG info: http://www.dmv.ca.gov/vr/smogfaq.htm#BM2535

No SMOG check until it is over 6 years old (2012 for this car). If it's over 4 years old (2010 for this car) when you sell, it will need a SMOG check.

being a formal smog tech in LA, anything you do will fail under visual inspectioin unless you have a CARB sticker. The state watches over these guy so close that, they will fail you when they see something they don't know. My suggestion would be to do what you want
1. Find a "friend" who will pass you for 100-200
2. Put eveything back when you go testing.

P.S. you are f***ed if they send you to test only station.

I say go for the gusto, do what ever you want to the car, thats what I'm planning. I really don't want to get into it, but as far as I see from this place so far is the state must expect all of us to break a few rules.
