Default Fast intake

Here is the question of the day.
I have ported and polished my heads and upgraded the springs and my cam to 222/224 581 112lsa,
I alreadey have headers and exhaust and a cold air, I'm putting everything back together on saturday. The shop that I deal with has a FAST intake on there shelf.
Do I spend the 1K and buy it?
Are the gains with the money?

No one in my area knows how to port the plastic?
Is this something I can do?

sux2bme,

I just finished having the 427 CID 550/560 Lingenfelter package installed on my 2007 C6. Included in that package is supposed to be the FAST Intake Manifold. I was not given the FAST Intake Manifold, but instead, the LS6 Intake Manifold modified by a company for Lingenfelter. The reason, I was told that Lingenfelter had too many FAST Intake Manifolds start seperating, and leaking. (3 layer composite material) They have submitted a design change to FAST Inc. which they supposedly are considering now.

Just thought I would pass on this information to you. Good luck with whatever decision you make...

Yes, with a dremel+ sanding drum attachment. You will see a lot of cleanup work in the area where the three pieces mate, and where the runners meet the plenum. I spent 5 hours on mine. This is worth another 10hp over the 15 mentioned.

Regarding the post above - I fail to see how the manifold can separate on a NA application, since the pieces are bolted together. Maybe at 12 psi it's another story... You do have to be very careful bolting the top piece back on, so you tighten evenly around the perimeter of the gasket, letting the top piece gradually sink into the gasket. I used Loctite to be sure it doesn't move.

Again, I am relaying information given to me by Lingenfelter people. The use of the FAST Intake Manifold was stopped on all packages, due to separation, and leaking. If further information is needed, a call to Lingenfelters would probably be in order.

A reseal prior to install will prevent that issue and it costs 5 bucks. I surprised they would bash a product that is installed by most other tuners without issue.

For some strange reason Lingenfelter is the only one reporting such an issue.

I'd probably get it ported too. I know a few people who had FAST intakes installed and then later went back in to get them ported.

In my conversation with them about this issue, they indicated that some serious problems had been caused by this separation on four cars, and they had to make good for all the repairs. I had actually been looking forward to getting the FAST Intake as part of the package, but in the face of their explaination, accepted the modified LS6 Intake instead...

What do you use when you reseal the intake and do you use it every where the seal is.

I guess that shows your knowledge level.

The 411 sir is that the 3 pieces are sealed with orange high temp, off the shelf, RTV silicone. I personally found it to be lacking in some areas when I opened all of the eleven of them that I have installed personally for others without a single issue.

We've done lots of installs with the FAST intakes and have never had an issue.

Is this still going?

With something like 12-16 bolts around the perimeter which screw into nuts, not plastic, it is damn hard to imagine how the three intake pieces (which are REALLY strong, thick Nylon castings), could come apart. This thing is so solid that I could probably stand on it without any problem, and I weigh 235.

The manifold is delivered with the bolts hand-tight. So of course, if the installer grabs the FAST out of the box, doesn't tighten anything, and slaps it on a TT engine that will run 12 psi boost, you may well have some leakage (Duh). That said, a one-piece manifold like the stocker LS6 is probably preferable for FI because it is permanently welded with no gasket. But I am sure that if you put enough boost through one of those, you can crack them too.

A check on LPE's website shows the FAST as a part of every single NA engine package they offer, so they haven't pulled anything. They use LS6 manifolds for their FI stuff. This is logical. If this thread is still active Monday, I'm calling LPE for clarification, because if there is a problem I want to know.
