Default Never enough power question

I have the Trick Flow Heads 225 in my C6 with a Comp Cam 224/230. I did not want alot of burble and rocking and this set up was pefect. The Dyno numbers corrected were 453 RWHP with 420 torque. The band is huge from 3500 rpm and up but.......whats the next step for some more power. Fast Intake ? Ported throttle body ?? forget the pully do not really want to tear down the engine again. Procharger is alittle too much $$
Power input would help guys Thanks

Ported Fast/TB and gears. I believe those will really make your car an insane street machine. That's pretty much your best bet other then going NO2, FI, or cubes.

But for you didn't mention if it was (4 speed auto 05 coupe) or 6 speed. 4.10 gears would be too much gear for the auto..But 4.10's would be best bang if you have the 6 speed.

He has the 6 speed Cameron, but the EMT runcraps.Do you recommend the 390's with these tires or go 410s with the hoosier street tires.Hes also running the wider z06 tires.

Not sure if you have a C.A.I., Long Tubes, X pipe, and Exhaust. If you don't, I'd add all that to the list along with the F.A.S.T. and the P.TB. Then I would throw in a Stage 3 DTE with 3.90's and a Textralia 0Z700. Then I would sell the C.A.I. and do a forged low compression 402 with either an ECS set up or scrap it all and do a twin turbo set up

I am going to do the 402 with the Trick Flow heads, add the clutch and rear end, and do the rear widebody conversion and call it a day

Have fun

does the fast intake with my set up help the lower end numbers ? I am more concerned with my 0 to 120 numbers. My car pulls better at higher end then lower end. The smaller cam is probably the reason for this ??

With that cam, you should hit your powerband at ~2200-2400 rpms up to the 6000's. I would not say it is the the cam. If you have the cai, headers, etc., I would say the intake/tb would be a wise investment. The quicker/more efficient you can get the air in and out...the better! Another benefit for low end would be the higher gears. I would say 3.90's will get you going faster and shouldn't affect your top end like 4.10's will.

In my fully built automatic car, I had heads/cam/headers/etc. etc. and it was a dog out of the hole. I would pull hard as all get out up top though. I added a 3200 stall with 3.73's and it was a rocket out of the hole and still had good top end. Just my .02.

Pretty much what I feel with my car. Its not a dog out of the hole but the end of the gear pulls better then the front. I agree a fast intake would help it breath and the gears would be the icing on the cake 390's

Definitely the hoosiers bob, he should also go with the 4.10's since he will have traction. As you may know the Z-51 6mz has different gear ratios that the base 6mn coupe. With 4.10's in his coupe, it will feel like 3.90's in a Z-51 6mz. And since I have the 4.10's and kdw 2's there are no traction issues.

The C6 base coupe has the taller (numerically lower) ratio of the Z-51.

Z-51 / base c6

1st 2.97 / 2.66
2nd 2.07 / 1.78
3rd 1.43 / 1.30
4th 1.00 / 1.00
5th .71 / .74
6th .57 / .50

clearly the 4.10's would be the right choice, and just ask spinmonster, he did over 200mph with 4.10's. Top speed is not affected with 4.10's on his 05 c6 Z-51.. Be back later .

My setup is quite different than yours. Mine will pretty much pull like a train no matter where I am. Spinmonster is the man to answer technical FAST 90 questions.

I have a 6 speed F55 Z06 rear fenders and tires etc....so you are saying the 4:10 for my car and the 390's for a Z51??

I don't think you should go with the fast Intake because as far as I know they cut a hole in your firewall. That's why I didn't put that Intake on my car. My advise to you is go with the gears 410 because you have a 6 speed and as you say you want to go fast from 0-120 and gears are the best way to do that. Good Luck!

Installing the LPE firewall kit will be "NO" problem. As long as the installer is qualified it will look like it came from the factory. You can look at it and never know.

Ok if they came out with a kit maybe it looks good, but I still think that gears are better because gears work right off the line. The fast Intake is not going to come on like gears do right out of the hole. That's why I think gears are the best solution.

par34n5, have you measured the acceleration you get from your car now in it's current state? If so, what are the current numbers?

Might be, the best investment you can make is mastering the current power before adding more.

Just a thought.

Here we go again. Ranger is always pushing the advice of trying to learn how to drive first.

J/K I do agree. But even after he does learn how to drive. He may still want more power. So we'll give him a list of mods that he can keep handy until then.

^^^^ Just about every time I go to the track there is a Corvette there with big time power and a driver who is inexperienced at harnessing that power. Result is he is beaten by everyone and their dogs with 100 fewer horsepower.

Same thing happens on the street. You don't have to watch very many StreetFire match race vids to appreciate that three shifts alone can drop the slow shifter 6-9 car-lengths behind the less powerful car. Lot of vids of Corvettes being humiliated by better drivers in lesser cars.

So I do point out from time to time that it's prudent to invest some effort and study on the driving component of acceleration.
