Default Firestone Wide Oval Tires

For those who bought the Firestone tires over the Goodyear F1 Supercar tires - How do you like them? Any issues? Just curious.

I'm thinking about getting a set to replace my original GY's. I'd like to know about the ride/road noise after a few thousand miles of use.

I got them. I have no complaints.

They, for some reason, seem to fill out my wheel wells better than the SC's. (i noticed it and thought it was just me, but then someone else mentioned it unsolicited, without even knowing that I got tires)

They definately grip better in the cold and handle better in the wet.

IT hasnt been all that hot here yet (damn endless winter), so I havent been able to compare them to the SC's yet in that temp.

I will never go back to GY.

I bought a set of GS-D3's that were great but expensive and didn't last long. The wide ovals don't grip as well as the D3's but they are acceptable and have way outlasted them already. On the track they hold up surprisingly well and will last through at least 6 or 8 weekend HPDE events. I've already worn one set down to the cords with no appreciable difference in noise. Although after several heat cycles, they don't grip like they used to. Hard to beat for the money.

Default They don't just look wider they are.

Goodyear 285/35/19, dia,26.9",tread width,9.2" sec width,11.4"
Firestone 285/35/19, dia,26.9 ,tread width,10.4 sec width,13.5

Goodyear 245/40/18, dia,25.7 ,tread width,7.7" sec width, 9.8"
Firestone 245/40/18, dia,25.7 ,tread width,8.2 sec width, 9.4

It seems that the only measurement that the GY has over the wide oval is section width 9.8 vs 9.4 on the 245/40/18 fronts. It seems that the rears, firestone has it all over the GY in width. My son has them on his C5 and loves them. They have a good looking tread and side wall. I'm looking at them for my next set of tires. The price is a no brainer.

I had a chance to ride with one of the instructors at Road America with is "bone stock" C5 Z06 with the FSWO's and he had corner speeds equal to some of the C6 Z06's. I was surprised as I figured he was running the OEM GY F1 SC tires. It was only after our 7 laps and we were back in the pits did Rudy tell me he car was stock except for the FSWO tires. Very impressive performance for 7 laps at Road America.

I had them on my C5 Z and really liked them, but I never got a chance to track them myself before I sold it.

I also took "foot prints" of the OEM albiet worn GY F1 SC tires and the new FSWO by placing 4 sheets of white printer paper in front of eash tire and rolling the car onto them and let the car sit for about 30 minutes.

When I rolled the car off I had 4 perfectly captured "foot prints". Using a ruler I proved that while the FSWO "LOOKED" smaller than the GY's they were NOT.

Tom

The total area of the footprint at a given tire pressure will be identical regardless of tire size. The question would be whether or not the footprint was wider. You could put 185/70's on there at 30psi and the footprint would be the same. Just narrower but longer.

BTW. Rudy said his Z was stock?

I hate to blow his cover but he's got T1 sway bars, brakes, oil coolers, intake and over 410rwhp. Next time you see him, take a look behind the front wheel and look at the blue, coke can diameter sway bar and ask him if that's stock.

So did you remember or write down what the dimensions of that tire patch area was? As opposed to the GY patch?
