Default Clutch Replacement

Well the black cloud that always seems to follow me, is continuing it's track record. The car is in the shop to have the clutch replaced under warranty and the shop just called to say that after receiving all the parts and taking the car apart, they have discovered that the flywheel needs to be replaced too.

Apparently the TSB on the clutch does not require the flywheel because they did not order it. Now they are telling me that the flywheel is on back-order, and they are not sure how long it will be before they are able to get it.

Meantime I am sure that they will probably put the car back together just enough to roll it around in order to get it off the lift.

Sometimes I wonder if the pleasure of owning it is worth the knot I have in my stomach worrying about it.

Until you get it together and drive it and say to yourself," Yes it is".

I hear you and hang in there. One day after its fixed and you sit next to someone you care about and eat a meal you will see this is the little stuff. The feeling....its called the Holy Spirit.

Life happens.....let it.

1.) Has the dealer performed a complete dealer inventory search to see if ANY dealer in the U.S. has the part number

2.) Did the dealer set up a **** case with GM SPO to elevate this concern

3.) If the answer is yes to the above, is there a good aftermarket flywheel that could be used which you would be happy with

Maybe have the dealer call his contact at GM see if they can get the part direct from the supplier.

Service Manager just called and said the flywheel has been found and is inbound. They should be able to get it back together Monday.

Had my clutch and flywheel replaced also, but with mine they just dropped the entire rear suspension with the tranny and drive shaft still connected (1 piece). Wonder why they took yours all apart.

In any event you should have back soon and all will be well.

I think Derail's drive line is ready to drop, but the tech just slid the entire assembly back enough to get to the clutch and flywheel. No need to take it to the floor if they do not have too. Would just have to raise it back up after clutch/flywheel R&R.

That will be a mess if the hoist goes down.

Peddle stuck to the floor before, and clutch started slipping recently.

Knowing my luck, I most likely will have a balance issue then (see first post).

Wait till you see it with the whole drivetrain out, that is a sight.

Rest easy, this is not a biggie.

I experienced the same thing with my car.
The pedal sticks near the floor, and doesn't come back. After letting off the gas pedal, and pressing the clutch pedal a few times, it comes back all the way. Then, there is the clutch smell.

This happened a few times on 2nd gear and once on 3th gear.
The car is 07 Z51 with approximately 6k miles.

Did I do something wrong? Or, are there some unbalanced parts? Or both?

Is it repairable under warranty?
Thanks for your answers.

The minute you smell eau de clutch, you know that you have slipped the clutch excessively, either intentionally during a launch or inadvertently during a poorly timed clutch-out during a shift.

It can also happen doing what some owners describe as a "rolling burnout." Sometimes the smoke they produce comes from the clutch rather than the tires.

So excessively slipping the clutch is a bad practice that can leave the pedal hung midway or on the floor. That's easy to correct by modding the driver.

Another cause of clutch pedal woes is boiling of degraded clutch fluid. This issue is discussed in detail here: Taking Care of Your Clutch

Do they have to redo the alignment after pulling your rear suspension?

Yes, and that should be covered under warranty too.
