The Product
Quality/Appearance Pros
- Excellent Build Quality
- The color scheme is catchy and makes the car look fantastic
Quality/Appearance Cons
- The car looks amazing underneath but no one can see it!
Product Pros:
- 16 way adjustable shocks
- Multiple Adjustments for the sway bars (up to 50% stiffer than Z06)
- The system completely Eliminated Wheelhop except under the rarest and most adverse conditions - and even then it is very minor.
- The car has much lower ride height which improved the handling and aesthetics. There is absolutely no rubbing or ride problems whatsoever.
- My corvette has been described by many reasonably experienced drivers as "the best handling street car they have ever driven." I have to concur with that assessment.
Product Cons:
- Steel Shocks are more durable - but add a slightly increased amount of weight. Pick your poison.
- I had to drill 2 small holes in the trunk under the carpet to make the rear shocks easily accessible (pfadt provides an easy to follow template for this) - this really wasn't that big of a deal but it took a while to work up the courage to drill. I laid down some quick dry epoxy to tighten up the shape of the holes (I'm a perfectionist) - then a couple strips of dynamat over the holes (actually I dynamated the entire main section of the trunk). I poked holes in the dynamat where the drilled holes were for easy access and then covered the holes with duct tape. Now it's actually a very elegant solution and my car is much quieter.
Price to Value
This system is moderately priced compared to other systems on the market, but it's performance is on par or superior with the added benefit of adjustability. This makes it a superb value and an excellent product.
Installation
A&A Corvette installed this system along with a GHL Exhaust (another fantastic product) in about 4 hours - including ride height adjustment. This was the first time A&A installed the system and that also includes the time it took for my exhaust. I would say a competent shop could do the install in 3 hours - including ride height adjustment. A&A treated me marvelously and accommodated my need to have the car back in the same day. They also gave me a fantastic price that was more than 50% cheaper than some of the local west coast competition.
Customer Service
Aaron Pfadt has gone so far above and beyond the call of duty to help me out with this suspension setup it's ridiculous. He's spent hours on the phone with me - and I'm just a regular joe who drives the car on the street and appreciates performance. You won't find better customer service anywhere. I have been extremely impressed with the way I have been treated and with the knowledge that Aaron brings to the table.
Point Blank: The Customer Service is phenomenal
The Bottom Line
Overall, the system is superb. The adjustments really do make a drastic difference and you can set the car from super firm to super soft with just the click of an allen wrench. Potential Applications: You can set the front shocks to very loose and the rear shocks to very tight if you want to help weight transfer at the drag strip. You can loosen up the front shocks slightly to create increased front grip on an autocross track or the street. You can also play with the front and rear sway bars to change the under/over steer characteristics of the vehicle. This is fairly easy to do - but you need a lift to get under there. That is, of course, true of any adjustable sway bar. The performance of the car is notably improved over the factory Z51 suspension package. There are several other high quality coil over kits out there (particularly LG, but also DRM) however this system allows easy transition from the street/track and performance that appears to be on par or better than the competition. If I had a track only car I might consider the LG coil overs, but despite what some say (if there are 16 settings, 15 are always wrong) I believe that the ability to tune the suspension is, at times, important. It seems to me that there is a correct setting for each driver and track.
Access to the shock adjustments on the C6 is as follows:
Use the provided allen wrench (or your own) to adjust the shocks.
- RF: Accessible simply by lifting up the hood
- LF: Unscrew one of the bolts on the washer fluid container and move it out of the way. Make Shock Adjustment. Move the wiper fluid container back into position and screw the 10mm bolt back on
- RR/LR: Unscrew the 6 thumb tabs that hold your trunk carpet in place. Lift the carpet up and pull it back. Place the allen wrench in the small holds you drilled (about 1/2 inch diameter) and adjust as needed. When you're finished - simply lay the carpet back down and screw the thumb tabs back in.
Access to the sway bar adjustments on the C6 is as follows:
- Place the vehicle on a lift.
- Unbolt the Sway Bars
- Utilize the appropriate holes on the sway bar to set desired stiffness and front/rear ratio
- Reinstall Sway Bars
Total Time for adjustments: 30 - 60 minutes
Note: The sway bars, at their stiffest setting, provide more stiffness than is likely beneficial for a car running stock tire sizes. These sway bars can provide LOTS of stiffness if need be and are perfect for a Z06 or a coupe running very wide tires - something like 325 rear. The point is that these sway bars will take most cars to the max and beyond.
