I'm a new Corvette owner and I'm fixing to change the stock exhaust system and could use some advise. My current thought is long tube headers from LG and Borla exhaust, and trying to decide between the touring or sport model. I'm wanting a good deep sound, but not something so loud that its annoying at 75 mph hwy driving. I'm also tring to decide between either 2 square tips or 4 oval. Anyone have some photos of the sqaure tips on a 2007 C6 Coupe? Any help/advise is appreciated.
Personally, I would start with the LG's, see how it sounds and then make a decision on the exhaust exchange. I have Melrose with stock exhaust and it sounds fine to me. It's a little louder than stock. I don't want the drone for right now.
I normally recommend working form the tail of the exhaust forward, as far as power gains are concerned. I always thought of getting new headers before midpipes and catbacks as getting a bigger spicket with the same size garden hose.
I offer Kook's headers and they are great. I have yet to get a complaint on them. Same goes for the Borlas.
No real good #'s. but just reading thru all the exhaust mods, headers combined with aftermarket exhaust is way loud(except maybe corsa) and again no real #s but guess that at least 50% drone
I used a combination of dynopad and dynomat to get drone to acceptable levels. the coupe is a big ampitheatre in back. don't know about vert
You need to decide up front if you want to run a Z06 catback. If you do then your going to need headers that terminate in a 3" to mate up. The stingers are pretty loud with headers and you will have drone right around the same rpm as your going to be driving on the freeway. This setup has a low WAF.
Do yourself a favor and attend some corvette get together's so you can hear the options in person. Most owners will be happy to give you a spin so you can hear what they sound like and you want to be sure and pay attention to any drone and what rpm it occurs at. Be realistic about how well your going to be able to tolerate this every day. Drone can get old fast. The wife nagging you over your choice can get old fast too so its something that you might want to be thinking about when you demo the options. Also keep in mind that headers up the ante a fair bit on spl's so whatever your hearing without headers is going to louder on your headered car. You should also be aware that headers will normally increase drone. Dont forget to budget for a tune because the car will be lean closed loop and rich on the tables outside of the 02 CELs your going to get.
I'm very happy with my LGM long tube headers and Corsa Sport exhaust (behind the LPE 403 motor). From what I've heard, Borla exhausts are susceptible to producing drone in a C6.

Kooks with Hi-FLow cats connected to Corsa - Sport or Touring to be really quite on the HWY.
I put the LG Pro headers with cats on mine first. Too quiet for me with the stock mufflers. Bought a Magnaflow axle back system and it sounded perfect except for a little drone at 1500 rpm. Added Dynomax Race Bullets 24215 just upstream of the axle back and they pretty much fixed the drone. I think this is where I stop. Won't know for sure until I get to drive it hard on dry streets in a day or two. If anything, the Race Bullets quieted down the exhaust too much in combination with the excellent Magnaflow mufflers.
Note that you can buy the Magnaflow two ways--axle back to use the LG Pro x-pipe and cats or as a cat-back system for use without headers. I have the axle back system and took 18" out of the end of the LG Pro x-pipe to put the Race Bullets in. I just did this today so will have some pics up tomorrow.
Best advice you already have--ride in a lot of cars with exhausts you are considering. Some of us, like me, are very sensitive to any resonance issues, other people are not. I have engineered what is a good solution for me, I think.
