Just took the Vette for a drive this morning after installing the C5 clutch spring...All I can say is WOW!!!! I didn't expect such a night and day difference. You can really feel how the clutch engagement is more linear; more like a C5 or F-Body. It no longer feel so ON/OFF
smoother engagement point, liner feel and you have a better feel what the clutch is doing. just about what minkster pointed out. before with the assist spring in there, it was a hit or miss. you may also find with the spring out the clutch pedal will required slightly more effort.
"SLIGHTLY MORE EFFORT???!" I drove my buddy's w/o spring the other day and said, "holy sHlT" that takes some leg!
I still have my spring in, tho may try the C5 spring...

maybe i lift too much weights, but to be fair, i drove an 07 without spring also (vidal1313) and his was much less effort then mine (06), not sure why that is. now you see why it is an assist spring not a return spring.
As XS650 mentioned, it's not a linear (clock) spring. Take a look at it. It's designed to assist the pedal push once it passes the threshold of push-resistance.
For my 05 that's the reason the clutch pedal had a completely non-linear feel - you have to overcome the initial spring resistance, at which point it helps you hit the floor. That annoyed the crud out of me. I hated that initial (what to my leg feels like a 1/2inch) part of the pedal stroke that gave way to no resistance past the threshold.
Now I'm happier, with the higher pedal resistance, but more linear feel. Though I don't like the 1-2 millimeters of play at the top of the pedal now. Still thinking of installing a topout spring of some sorts, not necessarily the c5 spring.
I had to adjust the cruise-control switch to be in better contact with the clutch pedal because the slight play, due to lack of c6-pedal spring, would disengage due to the 1-2 mm of play.
I changed my 06 Z-51 clutch pedal spring over to a C-5 spring and it is much better now, more linear and predictable. It's true that the smaller C-5 spring will mean less assist from the top of the pedal travel as you push it down, but it is a very small change comparerd to the more positive and predictable movement on the way up. Bottom line: this is a good and quick fix to get a better feeling clutch and it only cost me $7.83 for the part at the local Chevy dealer (part # 12555205).
By the way, with either spring, when the clutch pedal is down to the floor the spring is under no tension, so it has nothing to do with helping the pedal return to the top; that's why with no spring at all the pedal still comes up OK; and in order to remove the spring the pedal needs to be on the floor to release all its tension.
