Default How can I read codes without a Tech II?

Is there any way to get code information out of a C6 without spending thousands of dollars on a tech II tool?

I have a custom tune (Ls2 Edit) but don't want an Ls2 Edit programmer. I may go HP Tuner down the road. Any suggestions? I'm getting a "service charging system" on the DIC.

A handheld like the Predator can read and erase codes. These sell for like $400 new, but even a locked used unit would be a great code reader and allow you to view real time data as well.

Thanks

Go to Advance Auto part or Autozone. Free. Oh, by the way what mods do you have on the car? I get the same message and it was never there before. I had an under drive pulley and it was fine before but now I have to pop the throttle to make that message go away. I think it is because the battery is weak. Also, don't bother pulling codes, it will just tell you the same thing that the DIC is telling you in this case. I pulled mine with HP and all it said was the same thing in differnet words.

You can buy CAN enabled code readers for $75 and more at Wal Mart and auto parts stores. Their are many good ones available. Check out the features on line and buy the one that's suits your needs. I have a Innova 3110 that I like. I paid around $160 for it.

I do have an underdrive pulley. Don't waste your money on a new battery, I put a new Optima in mine last night. Same code coming on today. Funny thing is not only do I get it on startup but I still get it intermittently when the car has been running for a while and the volts are over 13. The manual says to hit the reset button when you get a display on the DIC. Doesn't seem to do squat, though.

...try to get the latest in the 3100 series...it is 3100A. BTW, I'm sure you don't want to cough up for a Tech II...they sell for about $2K.

If you buy a code reader/resetter make sure it's OBD2, CAN enabled or you'll only get partial information.

Yes they will scan it for you, but they are NOT allowed to clear the codes....but money talks.

So if you don't clear it does it keep coming back regardless of whether or not the condition has been corrected?
