I just put in a Kirban shifter and its really nice. Supposedly its the same as the callaway but 100 dollars cheaper. It is actually a little taller than stock, but feels great and the throws are shorter.
My speed shop recommended the Callaway Short throw shifter. I could never go back. Shifts are more deliberate and require more strength to shift but no more missed shifts. You know when it is in gear.
One of the best mods I have done so far is the Callaway shifter!! Exceeded my expectations! I got the one that has the aluminum Callaway shift know. It is an extra $30 but I like the look and feel of it. Extra weight of the Aluminum **** gives you more leverage when shifting. From what I have read and heard from the speed shops and this forum the Callaway is the best for the C6 vette!!
I went with the Callaway and have no regrets. Install was easy and no issues with getting into reverse with the car running or not. Others have posted reverse issues. As stated they do take a little more effort to shift. I figure it's because their not sloppy like the stock shifter and have a shorter throw.
I have Calloway as well. I chose that because I read several posts where members installed B&M or Hurst and changed to Calloway. I've never seen a post where someone was dissatisfied with Calloway and replaced it for another.
I have the B&M Ripper and so far I have no rattles.
Question for those who have the B&M. The website says the shifter is adjustable however I don't see anything in the installation manual about adjusting.
I went with a Hurst with a classic white ****. Best mod I've done to my Vette. I went with the Hurst because that what I used drag racing back in the 60's.

Butt....for those that haven't seen my short video of my B&M shifter in use, click on the video link below.
You can see that the shifting action is very easy - for the 1-2 shift my forearm is resting on the console and the shift is just an easy flip of my fingers. The throw is short and the feel is very precise.
There is no rattle.
I don't know of any "adjustments" that can be made. I just installed my according to the instructions and it works great!!!
I'm sure all the aftermarket shifters all do pretty much the same thing, but my B&M works great and I am VERY pleased with it!

No adjustments I am aware of. I had my dealer install it and he said it went in easy.
B & M's rattle and the longer you have it the more it rattles.
the C5/C6 aftermarket for shifters is a joke. thank goodness chevy improved the C6 desighn a bunch.
although they do shorten the throw, they have awful shifting qualities because they force you to exert yourself with a heavy hand. and when you have to ham fist it, it takes all the finess away.
you want to experience a nice short throw shifter with a smooth, slick action? drive an s2000.

American cars have historically had sloppy shifters...the C6 stock shifter has been a pleasant change in this area at least.
It would seem we can not compare closely enough to the Germans and even some Japanese automobiles, but the Callaway, B & M, Hurst, etc. are products which make the C6 that much better a performer.
Until the General gets into bed with a good German engineer, we will be thankful to the above after market manufacterers.
