Default FAST Install Help

The car is apart and I am in the process of installing a FAST intake and have a few questions.

Valley Pan Bolts, the bolts under the intake on the block? If so which one are swapped out, the FAST only came with 10 bolts and there is 11 on the car.

MAP sensor, where does it go?

What goes in the back hole on the FAST is it the MAP, is this why the wires need extending?

Do I re-use the factory bolts that attach it to the block?

I am using the LS1 O rings, Also bought longer throttle body bolts.

The FAST has another opening for a hose on the back left, do I just plug this?

Anything else that anyone could help me out with would be most appreciated.

You need to track down "Spinmonster". He's the FAST 90 man. Type in Spinmonster in search.

You need to change all the perimeter bolts on the valley pan. The LS1 and LS6 only have 10, I didn't know GM added one for the LS2.

The hole in the rear of the top manifold piece is where the MAP sensor goes in the LS1 and LS6. For the LS2, you will want to use the MAP sensor relocation kit Here : http://www.lingenfelter.com/store/ln-bk28kit.html

or Here: http://www.autopressreleases.com/bas...ase.asp?ID=311

The manifold should have came with bolts to attach to the block.

You can use the LS1 intake seals, but the FAST intake seals are a little thicker and seal better when using the FAST intake.

This is the A/C vacuum port on C5's. If you don't need it cap it off.

Why do these bolts have to be changed? What's different about the new bolts?

The new bolts are button head allen screws (M8 x 1.25 x 30mm) that have a shorter head length. I'm not sure about the LS2, but on the LS1 and LS6 the stock bolts are too tall causing the lower piece of the FAST to crack if the stock valley pan bolts are used. The bolt heads will contact the lower piece of the intake and leave indentions. This also prevents the intake from sealing adequately, causing all kinds of performance issues.

They are supposed to. I have seen reports from some stating the bolts didn't come with their kit.

The bolts that come with the kit are black oxide and will rust. I would recommend going to a hardware store and getting stainless bolts instead.

The bolts will touch the bottom of the manifold and crack it if you dont use the allen head ones. The manifold bottom sits lower than stock.

All 10 get changed but if you lose one, the one in front of the PCV doesnt need to be changed; it isnt under the manifold once its in place.

Once its in place the LTFT's will go leaner than stock and should be tuned. Otherwise it will be richer at WOT from extra fuel being dumped.

On this pic one can see the factory and replacement button bolts that came with the kit I bought. The last two, in the corner of the picture would be #10 & #11, I dont know if all need to be replaced or just the outer one. Also, I shot this pic to try and help me understand where to cut into the firewall, I did put the intake on the car and slid it back until it hit the firewall however it never did seem right and if I tried to create a template I dont think it would be right because it lined up where that screw is in the picture.

I had hoped to create a better instruction so it would be posted as a reference but I did not take better pictures.

I still dont see what the issue is with 1 inch washers for the fuel rails. perhaps the issue will surface when I get to that step.

The Torch,

I thank you for your help, just to hep out a newbie with this intake the hole at the rear (towards firewall) should be plugged with the hose fitting on the back left of the car? If so what do I need to plug that hole?

Also I am not sure if you understood which O rings I was talking about, the kit came with seals from the intake to the head, I purchased new O rings for the fuel injectors (LS1) as I was told they would fit better with this intake.

Miaugi- take a look at the pictures for the difference in th bolts, so far the install is fairly easy except for the fittings.

If you relocate the MAP sensor to the front than the hole in the rear, top will be plugged with the rubber plug that comes in the MAP sensor relocation kit. The 1/4" vacuum port on the drivers right rear of the intake should be plugged with a vacuum cap if your NOT using it.

Yep, I misunderstood. You are correct on the injector o-rings.

Bob

Just replace the outer one to the right. The FAST clears the inner stock bolt.

Thanks everyone all for the help, I put the Lingenfelter MAP kit on order today, hopefully it arrives in time for the weekend.

Also yanked the computer and am sending it to COW for their tune.

This car has had a hell of a couple of weeks regarding installs;

Vararam
Kooks
Stage III+ clutch
Ported FAST Intake
Ported Throttle Body
Tune
Thermostat

Hopefully the car works ok, the only part that counts which wasnt on the car prior to sending in the computer was the intake.

I did it all except for the clutch and since the car was taken in with headers on they had to be removed and reinstalled by the mechanic who also cleaned up my install. I have complained about dealers before however I have to give credit where its due and the team at this dealer went above and beyond. I dont know if its allowed to post however my location should make it apparent enough.

Anyone install the 54030 FAST firewall kit? I ended up ordering this since my computer was getting tuned and I figured I would throw this on the car. However as with most aftermarket items it does not come with instructions. Obvious parts are the pop rivets and panel. what is the aluminum block with two allen heads for? also is there a trick to line up where the firewall needs cutting?

Thanks

Well....somebody has! That's why I posted this picture for you up a couple of posts.

I have the kit but haven't installed my FAST yet. The picture doesn't tell you much except to see where the part goes. It looks like they smeared a bunch of sealant around the hole when they put the part in there.

I think the block is to remount something that has to do with the windshield wipers. I'm hoping that once I open up the hole it will be fairly obvious how it goes in there and what it does.

Good luck, and I'll probably be getting ahold of you in a month or so when I get around to doing mine!

Anyone? I just removed the screw in the picture and cut into the firewall with the dremel and the fiberglass pieces are stuck to a metal block that the screw went into, I dont know wh\ere to go at this point, I wish those that had done this before and remarked it was easy would have posted instructions because at this point I am really pissed because of a lack of instructions.

Jesus the kids lego blocks came with instructions, why does this have to be rocket science? anyone of these aftermarket producers ever hear of a technical order, or job guide or instruction???????

Hang in there....it won't be long now (I hope?). Ok FYI, here is where I'm at. I completely disassembled, cleaned and re-assembled my FAST. For the bolts on the valley cover, the previous FAST owner (I bought it used) did not change out the bolts as I can see where they pressured the bottom of the intake (no cracks luckily). There are only 8 bolts that touch the bottom of the FAST, 4 on each side.

Since I could not find the correct bolts I removed the 8 in question, put them in my drill with the heads exposed and ran the drill while passing the bolts heads on a bench grinder, managed to take off ~2MM from each head (about 1/3) which I feel will be enough clearance. I then painted those 8 bolt heads with rust paint to protect them.

Today I will be cutting my firewall and I will take some pics for you and pass on what I learned later tonight or tomorrow.....so like I said "hang in there"!
