Default 3" Corsa Sport

Maybe I missed this before, but I see a 3" Corsa Sport with X pipe and quad 4" tips on the Corsa sight. Has anyone had experience with this set up? I assume the regular Sport system is 2.5". Is there a significant difference in sound, performance, etc.? Is there an increase in drone? Does it connect without modification to the existing cat? Any feedback would be helpful.

Surely someone has seen these and has an opinion.

I had mine professionally installed, so I can not comment on the installation. Performance gains would best be characterized as negligible - as with other cat-back systems. However, the sound is far superior to stock. Get the X-pipe to avoid popping on deceleration. It was easily worth the grand just for the sound.

These appear to be different. If you look in the Corvette Forum Store under C6 parts and then in exhaust systems and then Corsa you will see at the top the 3" system with quad 4" tips. You can also find it on the Corsa site if you dig a bit. I too had never seen this before and thought it only came in quad 3.5" and dual 4". I am very interested but would like to hear from someone who already has them.

The 3" is for the Z06. It will not bolt up to the stock mid section at the over the axle connection, nor will the corsa midsection bolt up at the midsection to cat connection. You can get headers for the base car that terminate in a 3" connection and these can be bolted up to any Z06 cans. You will note that Tom Walters that replied previously has LTs installed. It would not be hard to make them work at any good muffler shop if a fellow was inclined.

It is confusing because they list both the 3" system and then they also list the system for the Z. Even on the Corsa site they show this under the C6. Here is how it is listed under C6:
2005-07 C6 6-Speed w/XO-Pipe/4 tips Sport 3.0" Dual Rear Exit w/ Twin Pro-Series 4.0" Tips $2099.99 # 14165 or
2005-07 C6 6-Speed w/XO-Pipe/2 tips Sport 3.0" Dual Rear Exit w/ Dual Pro-Series 4.0" Tips $1999.99 # 14171
Then it shows part # 14172 $1713.99 and # 14164 $1820.99
I will call Corsa tomorrow to try to understand the difference if there is any.

I did a 3" Borla Touring system, but it uses LGM headers, X-pipe and LGM's mid-pipe adapter to make it a bolt-on fit:

OK, here is the latest from Corsa. Part number 14165, which is the 3" catback system including the 3" X pipe, will connect directly to the stock catalytic converter. I am going to email them to get it in writing. If this is true I am surprised no one has it installed.

Always good to straighten things out Gary. It would seem that corsa has added a few new options without getting much fanfare here. What it sounds like is that corsa has made a new mid section that will fit their standard Z06 cans on the back end and terminates at 2.5 in front to mate up to the stock cats. Or more specifically you will still be bolting to the stock downpipe off the cat (the cat is close coupled to the manifold and then has a short downpipe welded to it which makes the turn into the tunnel) which is 2.5". Reports I have read state that the 3" system for the Z06 have the familiar corsa tone but are a little deeper than the (C6) sports. I have not heard the Z06 part. One other thought is that if you were considering headers you would want to do it in one shot because the corsa mid pipe would be superfluous, you would use the mid section that came with the headers.

Another new Corsa release without much fanfare is their Xtreme System (PN 14469) for the C6. Still 2 1/5 in. pipes, but the Xtreme has a deeper tone than Corsa's C6 Sport - similar to their Z06 system - and when you step on the 'loud pedal' the Xtreme makes more sound than either their Sport or Z06 system.

It's been on my car since yesterday!

I've had this system installed on my 2007 Z51 for several months. It's a full 3" system, adapted from the Z06 setup. I ordered through LPE and got one of the first kits produced. Like others said, the power gains are minimal (359rw with the corsas, K&N's and a tune), but the sound is tough and deep.

At the very end of the X-pipe, there is a step down to 2.5", allowing the big pipes to mate to the stock cats. I wanted the additional flow for a future TT upgrade, but the stock sound sucked so I ordered these. Haven't had a chance to compare with standard Corsa Sports but I'm 100% satisfied. Installed myself on ramps in a few hours.

That is great information. Is the 3" drone free as advertised?

Hopefully there is more than one member that has installed the 3" system who has an opinion. I need some reassurance that the 3" system has the same drone free characteristics as the 2.5" before I place my order.

Yes, they are drone free as well. The tips look INCREDIBLE compared to the regular sport system. They are some of the nicest tips I've seen on ANY system. Even with headers they were drone free. After that came cam/ heads, and then there was a bit of drone, but still almost unnoticeable. If you like the Corsa sound, go for the 3" system, you wont regret it!

Any pictures? The quad 4" tips seems to be a perfect option that is being overlooked by many.

Sorry, no pics, I have since changed that system for the Borla Z06 system. Sometimes I really miss the quite interior I had with the Corsa's, but the sound just wasn't "V8" enough. Still, I'll never forget those tips, they are a work of art!

How do you like the Xtremes? Too much drone? Too deep sounding? Or Fine and dandy?

Thanks in advance.

Here ya go.. The first pic is my car sitting next to some cheap German car and a stock 2005 C6. Personally, I consider the system drone-free but everyone has their own threshold. My overall experience has been great, the 3" pipes make a nice rumble at cruise, WAIL at WOT and make a tough burble w/ slight popping on decel. Hope this helps.

I have the quad-tip Corsa Sport exhaust behind LG Pro long tubes (with high-flow centers) and the LPE 403 motor.

The tips are elongated/slightly oval and flared...they measure 4" in height and 3.5" in width (shown here in an older photo).

IMO this setup sounds great....and no drone.
