Every Corvette aftermarket shop carries the $19.95 Skip Shift Eliminator. I got mine from West Coast Corvettes. Sometimes, you can find it for $14.95. The light on your dash will still illuminate, but it eliminates the 1 to 4 drop.
The install takes all of 2 minutes if you have access to 'getting under the car'. The wiring is above the Trans-axel. Unplug the connector, plug this inline at the connector, and you'll soon forget you ever had it.... other than the 1-->4 lighing up all the time. This will drive you crazy if you do NOT install this.
The cags eliminator is the first modifaction most of us make. It saves some thousands of dollars in gas guzzler tax, plus as earlier noted, it is a piece of cake to by-pass. Pretty ingenious actually.
Save your money on the CAGS eliminator, imo. Instead, bolt on your favorite mods, then get a quality tune and have the tuner delete the skip shift 'feature'.

That's true, but I'd be careful weather proofing that connector so it doesn't start leaking road crap into it and shorting stuff out after a few thousand miles. You also still have to look at that stupid 1-4 light. Tune it out and it's gone! If you don't do any mods though, then don't waste your money on the tune and go for the CAGS eliminator. For most of us, $20 is nothing and you have a permanently weather-sealed solution.
But hey, its a free country! Do whatever floats your boat.
That's if you call it crappy behavior. I think it has taught me that if I'm going to drive like an old lady, I might as well save some gas and shift to 3rd instead. Even though I'm no longer a starving college student, nor are my kids, I still feel I'm not too old to learn something.
If you call adapting your driving to GMs kludge "learning"...

If left unprotected, the tin leads on the Radio Shack resistor will corrode and eventually, the $1 solution will turn into a $1 headache as its resistance value slowly increases as the lead mount into the body of the resistor slowly unseats itself.
I don't know what happens when the 2.2kOhm rises to 2.3k, then 4.9k, then 25k, then 550k, then basically an open circuit. I wouldn't want to find out. Get the CAGS eliminator.

no body in the right mind would leave it wide open. there are reports others that purchase CAGS eliminator kits going bad due to workmanship.
Sorry DarthStimpy, but you are incorrect. Check out the EPA WEBSITE and the LIST OF CARS BEING TAXED and you will find things like the armored version of the Cadillac DTS, and the XLR, and the Aston Martins and Vipers, but NOT the Corvette or the Z06.
Yes, one of the mandates from corporate during the C6 design was no gas guzzler tax. BTW, most wont get better mileage in real world usage with the cags. Its designed to help with the city cycle testing which isnt a good representation of real world driving and virtually no one on earth drives the way they do during the testing. Or at least no one with a *****.
I never drive that conservatively, so it never bothered me.
That's the bottom line, gents. Drive the car like it should be driven and the skip shift will never bother you by engaging!
The exception to the above that drove me to hate skip shift is getting stuck behind mr. suit in his Cayman S and being forced to take 2nd gear at low revs until I can blow around him when the passing lane opens up!
Rarely bothered me, and I'd shift into 3rd when it lit up--plenty of torque, so not a problem. That being said, when the Predator tune eliminated it--what an improvement! It then occured to me that it was a pita to wonder if it was going to happen in certain situations. Definitely recommend getting rid of it.
