Default CEL, Code P0171

Friend of mine just installed a new intake manifold on his 2005 C6 and after two weeks of driving, it has thrown a P0171 (bank 1 lean) code. I said probable intake gasket failure, and it's sucking a little additional air, resulting in the lean condition. He says, "No way." He installed it correctly. Before we go tearing the manifold off, I thought I'd ask anyone here if they may have had a similar problem or code, and what remedy fixed it. Thanks.

I agree the gasket is the problem. If it's only bank one the problem will be something that affects only that bank.

Make sure he didn't disconnect anything else and to check all the clamps post-maf.

On LS1 and LS6 motors with a CAI installed, occasional P0171 and P0174 codes under very light throttle are reported routinely.

The advice is:

Check all the connections in the airpath for tightness. Clear the code(s) and go for a ride. It's very rare for the code to recur on the test drive.

I used to get one or the other lean code a couple times a year on my 2002Z with CAI, always a minimal throttle when descending a long grades once the speed had dropped to 30-35 in 5th.

It never reflected a true lean condition of concern.

Don't know about a CAI on the LS2/7. Mine is stock.

That code isn't in the 2006 service manual I have. A quick search turned up some your request for help here: http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show....php?t=1731738

And

good advice and an offer to send you the technical explanation:

I cannot copy and paste the whole test procedure because ALL Data program data is protected. I CAN print this out and fax it to you if you want. I'm closing in 15 minutes right now, I will be at my shop tomorrow also.

Kenny
Did you follow-up with Kenny? if you lack access to a fax machine let me know by PM. Perhaps I serve as an intermediary.

I did, but my tuner said it's a crank sensor so I dunno! should I take it to the dealer?

If caught between the GM's online service manual and your tuner, I'd take the car to the dealer. Only problem with doing that is the origin of the sensor you recently installed that may be the issue.

I'd suggest another post to your original thread.
