Hi Guys,

I have a clickling sound as I release the clutch. This usually happens as I leave from a complete stop. It sounds like it's in the rearend. Dose anybody else have this problem. My shifter also rattles in 2nd and 4th, the dealer told me that Chev is aware of the problem but will not fix it yet. Any help would be appreciated.

I had this. It was corrected by lubing the axle shaft splines where they insert into the rear hub bearings. Been quite now for 15,000 miles.

I've been hearing something similar lately, mostly when the car's been sitting a while - seems to go away after its warmed up a bit.

It will usually click when starting from a stop, and occasionally when coming to a stop. Sounds like its coming from the left rear, as best I can tell.

The only thing I can think of that I might have done to cause this is tightening the rear axle nuts; the left side was a bit loose.

Funny it would click after its tightened to spec, not before, but that sort of makes sense if its the splines, because tightening them might move them just a squidgy bit.

I guess if it gets annoying enough I'll try greasing the splines. I can't think what that would hurt, as long as I don't get grease on the threads.

P.S. I also have some shifter rattle, especially in 4th, but that's my own fault as I swapped to a Z06 shifter which doesn't have the rubber bushings.

I did a search but could not find any info on a DIY. Anybody body have info on what type lube and a procedure for doing this?

You can find some pictures in the C5 section.
I found that just tightening the axle nuts will not get rid of the popping sound. On the C5, with the wheels off the ground, and the suspension extended, if you remove the axle nut, you can push the axle in about 3/8". This is just enough to get some lube on the back side of the bearing hub where the CV joint spline pulls up against the hub. The noise is not caused by the movement of the spline, it is the stick/release action of the CV hub against the bearing hub.
I just took a Q-tip swab with some Mobil 1 on it, and made sure I coated the inside end of the spline and the hub.
Tightened the axle nut back to 118 ft-lbs. and the noise has never come back.
