i was researching a new mass air flow sensor today offered by mid america for my 07 c6 mn6. they advertise an increase of 15 RWHP!!!
HAS ANYONE TRIED ONE OF THESE or other brand and ,if so, does it really produce a noticeable gain in horsepower? is it hard to installand/or any bad side effects? would appreciate any feedback as this forum has helped me countless times (most recently with installation of gm full width race spoiler and z06 rear splashguards).
thanks to all members who correspond here!
Short answer, no they don't add power. There's no reason why they should as long as the MAF they replace isn't acting as a flow bottleneck The factory MAF isn't the flow bottleneck in the stock induction system.

i believe the increase is with an unscreened maf.
i recently saw an add for an aftermarket maf, from slp i believe, that basically said you could get an x increase by using their maf or you could get an x+y increase by using their maf with the screen removed.
No documented increases from aftermarket MAF's that I've ever seen. Any gains that do result are from the MAF "tricking" the ECM by allowing in more air than the computer thinks, thus leaning out the A/F mix. Since the factory tunes are very conservative, this can eke out a few ponies. Gains are very minimal, nowhere near 15 HP.
Same general principle applies to removing the MAF screen.
A good computer tune can yield much better results.
Are we supposed to clean our maf screen periodically? If so how?
Well, if you take care of your air filter, me thinks not.
However, your PCm does return oil and vapors into the intake, past the MAF screen. I suppose if your car burped or belched it could spew some of that forward into the MAF. But cars dont burp or belch.
I have not seen one dirty, but who knows? The older I get, the less I know.
