I would like to have my (Z51) calipers powder coated...removing them is one thing but I am not sure what is involved in dis-assembling them once off the car...like do you need specific tools or anything else... no luck doing a search on this procedure...any help with instructions or a link to another post would be appreciated...
Jim, If sending them to me, here is the best way of doing it.
First, go to home depot or Lowe's and buy 4 M10x1.0 or M10x1.25 bolts, at least 1.5" long and matching nuts to go with them.
Then (this assumes car on jackstands and wheels off)
Remove brake reservoir cover, Stretch a latex glove over the top of of it and replace the cap. This will minimize fluid loss while removing the calipers.
Next
1 caliper at a time,
Unbolt the fluid line from the caliper (I've seen anywhere from 11 to 13mm banjo bolts, but 13 is most common) and using the stock copper washers and a new bolt and nut, seal off the fluid line. Basically, just replacing the hollow banjo bolt with a solid one and you won't get any fluid loss while calipers are off of the car.
Unbolt the calipers from the brackets (15mm wrench for the nut, 18mm for the sliding pin it bolts into.
Remove the calipers
Unbolt the brackets from the car (21mm, maybe 22 though)
Prep (If sending to me, other coaters may require you fully disassemble the pistons and seals, but thats part of my service):
Calipers- Remove the bleed screws and drain as much fluid out as you can. Wrap them carefully, especially the fronts as they can bang around in transit and mess the letters up easily.
Brackets- Remove the clips that hold the pads in place and pull the sliding pins and their rubber boots off of the brackets.
Send me the brackets and calipers and thats about all there is to it.
Can you do Atomic Orange? And how close is it to the exterior color. I saw a pic on the website but it didn't look anywhere close...I am wondering if it was just the screen shot?

its kind of close, but not perfect because its not metallic. I have another orange I need to drop by the dealership to compare that might be closer.
