Default Paint finish

I would like some advice on 2 issues:

1.) what is the best remedy for taking care of minor nicks in the paint (metallic clear coat on 2005 C6)?

2.) what is the best spray-on wax to use on the above referenced paint?

Really minor nicks can be buffed out, or sanded with 2000 grit sandpaper, then buffed. This is not a job for the inexperienced.

The risk in using any abrasive, whether it's a clay bar, rubbing or polishing compound, or sandpaper, is rubbing through the clear coat.

Spray on car wax...without a doubt Optimum Car Wax. Provides a combination of long lasting protection and the depth of a carnuba shine.

Read the reviews on Autopia, as many professional detailers incorporate this product in their work.

For those who like wax, a "carnauba shine" is the ultimate.

For those who like synthetic polymers (such as myself), there is no such thing as a "carnauba shine". Carnauba wax is inherently yellow, and the more coats you put on, the more the finish is discolored by the wax.

Synthetic polymers such as Zaino or NTX are optically clear, and do not discolor the finish. They also last much longer, and are easier to apply. Zaino is a catalyzed polymer, and so requires a 2-step application. Once applied however, it can last for several months. After a fresh application of Zaino, my wife actually gasped out loud when she ran her hand along the paint surface.

Don't take my word for it. Get a bottle of NXT, and a bottle of your favorite carnauba wax, apply it to either side of your roof. Re-apply every few weeks. It won't take long for you to tell the difference. If you do the same test with Zaino, the difference will be even more pronounced.

There are many very fine detailing products out there, and they all work well, and have their strengths. But before you blindly pick one based on somebody else's heartfelt recommendation, do a little testing, make up your own mind.
