Default Vararam install...OK Uncle!

I am trying to install a vararam unit in my 06 coupe. I cut out the shroud plenty big, put the unit together outside the car and it wil ljust not line up with the throttle body spacer. I spent the past 4 hours installing it backwards and forwards and even went out to buy flexible coupling and still no dice. The only way it fits is with the scoop pointed on a downward angle with the bottom of it below the bumper grill opening. I did place the scoop on the two bumper tabs on the inside and it just pops off when the couplings are attempted to be put together. Its almost comical how bad the fitment of this unit is. Can someone PLEASE tell me what I am doing wrong. Did they send me the wrong unit? Does the Z06 unit look anything like the C6 unit? I have tried putting the maf and throttle body couplings together in every imaginable combination and nothing is working.

I have done two cold air intakes and a couple top breathers on my C5's and never an issue. Why does this Vararam remind me of some kind of back yard, mickey mouse contraption.

If this doesn't help , contact Vararam ...they have been extremely helpful to folks in the past.

I know they were back ordered for awhile and maybe this batch got rushed because there is no way this thing will fit. I tried multiple different sized couplings including flexible hose and the stock piece none of which work.

what makes this so bad is I waited just about a month for this thing and it will be a chore to return it to RPI as they do not answer or return phone calls.

I had EXACTLY the same experience. My vararam would absolutely not line up with the spacer. If I got even close, the intake was pointing down and the bottom 1/4 was blocked by the lower bumper. I finally took the spacer out and it lined up perfectly. I called Vararam and they said the spacer was not designed specifically for the Vararam and implied that I wasn't the first to say it didn't fit. I feel your pain. My spacer is now a paperweight on my desk. Let me know if you get it to fit properly. Good luck.

They all install with the spacer on a downward angle. Have a look at them in the posts on the forums.

Ok, finally got the damm thing in and lined up. I had to open the shroud a good bit more then the template and I used two new couplings I got from pep boys and had to thread one with a hole for the breather thing. It is not perfect but it is buttoned up and lined up, no leaks.

I was looking at the bottom scoop and where the two pieces are joined together at the joint, one side is opened up a bit. Looks like I need a new bottom piece of the box and if I can find couplings that are .25" longer a piece I will be in business.

Its ok for now. the performance gains better be worth the ugly looks and fitment issues.

Glad that you finally got it figured out and installed.

My suggestion to anyone with an install question about the Vararam is to call their technical support people. They were more than helpful. I called them numerous times and they were very patient and helpful each time.

I've seen and used a lot of cold air kits over the years and I wouldn't call the Vararam Junk.

Pull this thread up:

Post #190 lists what I had to do to tweek the Vararam so it's a perfect fit.

And it is not "JUNK". With a little imagination, mechanical aptitude and patience, it goes on beautifully.

On mine, I had to reposition the orange coupler that attached the throttle body to the airbridge. If you haven't messed around with that piece you might try it.

You got rid of the stock accordian coupler like I did. Is you breather valve (I think thats whats it called) threaded all the way through the new silicone coupler you used? The stock piece had it set up flush with the accordian style coupler, mine it is sticking in all the way through my new silicone coupler which puts it in the path of incoming air. I am trying to figure out a way to correct that.

No one appreciates a one word post like this expecially not the manufacturer. If you have a negative opinion you want to express the LEAST you could do is explain WHY that's your opinion.

Your BS post impacts the manufacturer, the distributors and the prospective customers. Bad (negative) news travels a lot faster on the Internet than any positive information.

Show some class and explain your post or delete it.
