It is common for the center console to get fairly warm. If it bothers you there are a few choices, such as insulation kits for the inside floorboards, etc. and/or a tunnel plate under the car. You can find threads on these options if using the search function.

Here is also a good reference point for FAQs. You may want to browse this first.

Call LG for their torque tube cover plate which is insulated and cuts the heat significantly. I installed one and know first hand.

This is the best option period... it fits both C5 and C6.

Wraps the hole tunnel, the plate option does nothing for the sides.

I was planning to get the summit to go with my tunnel shield

I was getting the summit for heat and the tunnel plate for stability vs z51 sways for my f55

Is this overkill?

Good idea?

Actually, if you are referring to me, we installed the Elite Engineering 1/4" tunnel plate with Thermal Abs. Besides the awesome heat reduction, the car is definitely tighter in the corners and all the little squeaks and groans have disappeared. It's a great product from a forum vendor with fantastic customer service. For just a few more dollars than the Summit (which I believe is a heat shield only) you get better chassis stiffening as well. You can also get a great buy if you watch for a GP by Elite.

http://www.eliteengineeringusa.com/E...ent_Plate.html

Of course, the installer is quite the magician...he may have cast his wondrous spell upon it...

Here's a thread with some pics of the plate differences and where it goes:

Do the sways and the plate, you will be very happy, especially if you like to carve through corners.

IYO-
then forego the summit blanket? I'm not sure I need/want all 3 shield, tunnel and z51 rods upgrade

edit: p.s. I already have the blackmaxx coated tunnel in hand

I tired the plate, it didn't do much, so I sold it and got the summit blanket, it worked.

Do what you like, the plate might be good for stiffening, but it doesn't do squat for the heat.

Just my .02.

Installed the torque tube cover. It works a treat. At least I can now hand over my toll booth loose change without getting the comment, wow this is some hot change ! Thanks for the advice.

I, and my others, are NOT experiencing an overly hot center console. I think this is a warrantee issue.

I just picked up an 07 and have the same problem with heat. I put my wallet in the console and could not believe how hot it was when I took it out to buy gas. The side also gets quite warm, and quite hot where the shifter comes out. I have a A6 if that matters.

This was on a trip from Mobile to Houston, so it was not in stop and go traffic.

I installed the Elite Engineering insulated tunnel brace and it solved the problem for me.

Taking that stuff (seats, carpet, console) out of the cabin to install insulation is totally too much work.

You got that right. Thats something GM should have already done if it was necessary. That's pathetic on Chevys part.

Thanks! Honestly our Thermal-Abs is the best on the market for reducing the heat in the console and also adding some stiffness to your chassis. Hundreds of customers can not be wrong!

Taking "that stuff" out is not that hard, just takes some time. I also learned a ton about the car while doing it.

Default Very hot

Probably time to do an insulated tunnel brace in mine. Today it's 100 degrees outside. Just got back from a 10 mile in-town trip. A/C on Full and nice inside the car, however the temp inside my console was 132.

(read by a Craftsman infrared thermometer, yes, I also tested the unit against a known thermometer, both outside and in my freezer. The readings were within one degree on both the high and low reading.)
Stock upper exhaust system.
