Default HUD Install Help

I am installing the HUD kit discussed on this site. All well so far except that on the dash removal step I can't find the nut/bolt identified as item 11. If anyone can point me in the right direction I would appreciate it. Thanks.

Default HUD Install Success

It took me about 10 hours but I successfully completed install of the HUD kit on my 05. I took the advice of another member and did not remove the steering wheel. Additionally, since I was not able to pull the dash as far out as others have been able to do, I took the advice of the same member who said the HUD projector could be inserted through the opening where the instrument cluster resides. It was a tight fit but it worked.

The hardest part of this job was finding all the screws, especially those which can only be accessed by lying on your back in the passenger floor board. In some cases you actually have to lie outside your car with only your head and arms inside while holding a flashlight. There were times when I had second thoughts about going forward but that was just because I have never done anything like this and with so much of the dash and console disassembled I wondered how difficult it would be to put back together.

The actual connections were very easy, straightforward and took less than 10 minutes. Putting everything back together was about 2.5 hours. In the end it works great and was well worth the effort.

Saw a previous post which said it was not necessary and I wanted to avoid any complication with airbag.

Pull the dash forward enough to clear the 2 end mounting studs that are a the base of the windshield A-pillars. Then pull the drivers side HVAC ducting off of the same left side mounting stud. Lift both the dash and ducting up to the windshield and you should then be able to carefully 'squeeze' the HUD through the cluster opening.

the hvac ducting that is the problem is the one that wraps above the cluster, kind of flat and hugs the round part of the dash. i can move the drivers side almost off the a-pillar stud, but the passengers side is not moving. i need to look for more bolts.

what a pain

Ah yes, I forgot there are 2 bolts in the center on top of that ducting you are talking about. When you start pulling the dash back look down through the center defroster vent and 2 screws should become visible that secure that duct to the main HVAC assembly. That might give you a little more flex with that drivers side ducting.
