Just wondering, do you drive the car daily? And have you tried the figure 8's since the chattering returned? I'm on my second flush and recently went out of town for a few days. Upon my return the first time backing out of the garage there was the ole familiar grinding/chatter from the rear clutch packs. I went to a local parking lot and did several left/right tight figure 8's, and the next day when I backed the car out of the garage, no chatter. I understand the clutch packs can get drier than usual if the car sits for a few days. Just a thought. Good luck with the problem
Yeah, I am hoping a little regular pre-emptive figure eights is the answer after sitting for a day or two. Just starting into my second gear oil change, first with the double dose of additive. Time will tell.
I just started getting it. Will try the Amsoil fix. In looking at the diff illustrations in the service manual, it seems to be a problen with the lube running off the clutch packs when the car sits for a period of time. Two questions come to mind:
1. Would overfilling the diff case help? It would raise the lube level.
2. Other than the noise, is it really a problem? It seems to go away as soon as I drive a short distance.

i would like to know too, if it is just noise and doesn't do any harm at all, i would just prefer not to have the dealership messing around with my car.
well I have to say that the noise and the skip is very slight but there. I have to try to make it happen. I do this to keep everyone updated as to the "fix". If it doesnt worsen I can easily live with what I have now. However, when it gets bad its bad. You will want a fix --trust me.
I had the same chatter with a new 4:10 gear installed.
I let it ride for approx 500 miles then did the figure 8's with it fully warmed up.
The next morning I had a couple of slight tugs when initially going from a dead stop and all of a sudden-Presto-all gone and never came back.
In my case I think the newly modified rear was purposely set up with tighter tolerences and it takes a while to properly lubricate the clutch packs.
I was almost tempted to return to dealer and ask for a fluid change gambling that there was no way they would know what work was done on the inside. Mine is modified internally and has the real case outside.
I had it at my dealer for a quick service and all they spoke about was the cool way the Borla Stingers look from underneath.
OK, I got my car back today. We'll see if it solves the chatter. I was told that once the clutch packs have been changed they have not any issues with those cars. I have no idea of course how many miles are on them since the changeover of the clutch packs. I guess I'll have to do some more driving.

My feelings exactly. Mine has started making some noise on tight slow turns. The noise does not bother me at all as long as it's not doing any damage.
I too was getting the noise and i changed the gear oil myself and added Royal Purple and one 4oz GM additive and the noise is gone I didn`t want anyone messing with my car, so i did it myself . It was a little tricky doing it on the floor without a lift, but i got it done and now the noise is gone so far and i didn`t have to let anyone touch my car

Yeah, it is doable without jacking the car up.
A little tight but no biggie if your used to working on cars.
And after the dealer took my car for a 24 mile ride after I let them do the first gear oil change. I am not eager to let them have it again.
However next time I do it, if there is one, guessing there will be.
I am ordering the hand pump the amsoil guys sell.
Using those bottles and squeezing it through the tube is just a mess.
The AMSOIL Hand Pump is a pretty decent high capacity pump (takes a lot fewer pumps to get the fluid in the diff than the ones I used to use from the local autoparts store) and it screws right onto the AMSOIL bottles which helps minimize the mess. But, I'd cut the tip off the hose. Its not needed and I've had one customer report that his tip popped off.

I used a new AMSOIL hand pump with the plastic tip. Yes, midway through the 2nd quart, the plastic tip slipped off and was resting on the differential threads. Used some needlenose pliers to grab it so it wouldn't drop into the differential.
I suggest not using the tip or using a clamp to secure it to the hose as it can snag up in the hole and could pull out when removing from the differential fill hole.

I've had a couple of old gearheads, a couple of service managers, and a tuner tell me there is no harm being done. This is simply a case of tight clutch packs not getting enough lube to stay quiet in tight turns due to the way the clutchs work. I have not seen anyone reporting a failure related to this on this forum or the "other" one.
I had the first fluid change done before I'd spoken to anyone about it. The noise came back and tight figure 8's would not abate it. I had the second fluid change because GM changed the fluid mixture/ratios, and the noise was aggravating. Now, as I posted above, if the car sits or doesn't make any tight turns for a few days, the noise will slowly start to creep back. Taking the car out and doing some back and forth split-8's redistributes the fluid and shuts the clutch packs up.
If doing tight 8's doesn't help and the noise bugs you have the current fluid change done. From then on you should be able to "exercise" the sound away if it returns by doing more figure 8's. I don't know if the replacement packs are less tight or even different from the factory, or what the deal is. I just know my car has been in the shop enough times and I get the everytime the dealer touches it.

My chatter is gone but I have this slight popping / clunking sound at low speeds, going straight over smooth or uneven surfaces. Sounds like a suspension bind, U-joint, differential back lash or ????
