Default '07 Coupe Oil Changes

Hi all!

I recently purchase a new '07 C6 Coupe. I want to do my first oil change myself but in looking through the owner's manual, I can only find oil change procedures for the '07 Z06. For some reason, there is no mention (that I could find) of the procedure and/or location of the oil drain plug and the oil filter. I change the oil in my other vehicles and believe I can do it on my new Coupe. Has anyone else noticed the omission of the the oil change instructions in the '07 Coupe manual and is the procedure for changing the oil any different than locating the drain plug and filter, removing them, draining the oil, replacing the plug and filter, and refilling with recommended Mobile 1 oil?

Thanks for any assistance and recommendations and I apologize in advance if this question has been asked previously.

Don

Drain oil, put plug back in, remove old filter, replace with new filter. Refill oil

The drain plug is just behind the front driver side wheel, you will see the filter right behind it. Should be able to do it without even getting completely under the car once its jacked off the ground.

The Z06 has specific instructions because of the dry sump set up has unique procedures. The coupe/conv are just normal, 1 drain plug and 1 filter, both easy to get to from the bottom/driver's side.

Get it warm first with a long drive, the filter will come off much easier when warm.

Z51 gets 6 quarts and the base gets 5.5 quarts.

The C6 Z51 has an engine oil cooler and takes an extra 1/2 quart. The 05 and 06 take a different filter than the 07.

Many of us do not even jack the car up. It is all reachable if you turn the wheel and use an extension.

Dont forget to make sure the old gasket comes off with the old filter.

Thanks for the clarification! I'm still driving a lowly '98 C5!

But, what brand and number of filter do you use for the base set up, and also the Z51 motor?? Some friends want me to change their oil for them in my garage.

I can only tell you about my 2005. I have a lifetime supply of Delco UPF 44 filters for my oil changes. I think they have changed the number but I'm sure you can cross reference it or someone will post the new number. The Z51 engine is the same as the base it just has the cooler. Interesting fact is it also has a cooler for the MN6 transmission and the power steering unit.

My standard coupe (non-z51) had a PF-48 oil filter on it. I had to return the PF-46 which was listed in the AC Delco book at Murray's Auto.

I also clean off the magnetic drain plug of all the shavings stuck to it.

For such a large engine, the oil filter looks unusually small.

The 05 and 06 take an AC Delco PF-46 oil filter. 07 and 08's take A PF-48

Many "thanks" go out to all who responded. You guys/gals are wonderful. I am so very pleased with the accuracy of info from so many in this forum.

I did the oil change yesterday with no problems whatsoever. It was a piece of cake. Bought Rhino Ramps, an AC Delco PF-48 oil filter from a Chevy dealer, and six quarts of Mobil 1 5W 30 fully-synthetic oil and "got to it." Plug and filter were easy to access and replace.

BTW, my Coupe is a Z-51, manual tranny, 3LT package, OnStar, LeMans Blue, black interior. I f****** love this car. Have taken it very easy on the engine so far due to break-in and having to initially drive it from Edmund, Oklahoma to Austin, Texas (where I live). Dealer in Edmund wouldn't swap this car with any dealer in Austin or Dallas. Just flipped 1000 miles and will begin to run it harder. I am now a faithful reader of the comments/questions on this forum. Thanks again for all the input.

Must be a lot easier than the C5...I have to lift the rear up on my '01 Coupe since the drain plug faces forward...I guess having the drain plug on the side of the pan negates having to lift the rear to get every bit of the oil out.

Does anyone have a picture of where to find the drain plug for slowpokes like me? BTW, I looked under the car and could see the oil filter.

Bugman (one of our members here) has an excellent website with a ton of great info on the C6. The web address is http://www.bugmanweb.com/c6/c6index.html and if you look at the index on the left, you will see "oil change" listed with pictures. You will also find a ton of other great info there too.... Thanks Bugman

Many thanks to both Heisnuts and Bugman, that is some detail. Hopefully I will be successful in my endeavour.

I just changed my oil right now...all you need to do is jack up the drives side front about 6 inches and you can do it all from the side of the car without getting under it...just have to stretch a bit or get an extension.

I had a peak under the car and the plug and filter are just sitting there staring at you! Looks easy.

yeah, but the filter sucks to get off, not much room to get your hand on it.

The dealership put that first filter on there TIGHT, would've been easier to do had I had a oil-filter wrench...but I dont believe in those, lol

I like having an end cap type oil filter wrench like the one posted here http://www.thetoolwarehouse.net/shop/KD-3253.html I take the new filter to my local auto parts store before doing the first oil change and match it up with the correct size.
