Did a search and read some of the responses and just want to know if this is normal. Noticed a little bit of ping or spark knock in 3rd and 4th gear between 2000 and 3000 rpm if I get on it a little bit. Am running between 91 and 93 octane. Doesn't matter if I am running straight 93 octane. Drove my friend's car, and his does the same. Is this normal?
My car is a z51 6spd '07 and my friend's is a f55 6sp '07. He was running 93 octane.

Its is normal. It will happen in any gear except 1st if you shift early then floor it. If you have headers you will notice it much more.
If you are going 30 mph in 5th gear then floor it the car will ping like hell and pull lots of timing, its doing what it is supposed to do.

I never noticed it until I put on my headers, then it was VERY noticable. I don't like it but what are you gonna do?

Does pinging sound like the valves rattling? I've got an '07 z06 that has this problem on acceleration in 2nd,3rd and 4th gear but only up to about 3/4 throttle. I don't hear it with w.o.t. It is not very loud but I can hear it easily.
