I'd run a can of BG44k through it all to clean out any solidified gunk in any of the injectors or fuel system.

that oil temp is normal in hot weather

Back in the 80s, I had a 1965-396. I was working on a project back east and left it garaged and covered for 15 months. (just drove it in, disconnected the battery and covered it).

Came back, charged the battery and started it. In less than 10 sec, a tapping that quickly became a Whack-Whack-Whak. A teardown found a broken ring and gouged cylinder wall.

I have always thought If I took some more care, oiling the cylinders, spinning the engine with no plugs, it would have been fine.

It took two cuts on the boring machine and made the block into a 427.

I know that times have changed but believe that this lesson still applies, so I have always been more careful since then.
