Default Going for 10 PSI!

Hi,
I'm thinking of increasing my boost level and if is it safe for my engine.
I'm currently @8psi of boost and my mods are: Maggie and Meth Injection.
what do you guys think? do it or just forget it? what is the maximum for me without blowing my beloved engine?
w8ing for some ideas.. Thank you in advance!

What is your current rear wheel HP? These engines are reliable with a good tuner up to 525rwhp. However, it is well know that some folks here on the forum have exceeded that,to the tune of 700rwhp on the stock bottom end..Would I go 700rwhp on my stock set up? NEVER..sooner or later the longevity is compromised..Maybe you should change gears, I see you have an A6,, so if you swapped to 3.15's you will defintely accelerate faster in the 1/4 mile to the tune of .3 tenths, with traction..Probably more so than adding 2lbs of boost..Accelerate faster without worring about engine boost. I personally think 10lbs of boost is ok, and maybe borderline pushing the envelope..

with you! 1st thing on my list is the saftey of my engine, that's why I'm asking the guys here.. 484rwhp for now... so what do you think? what all of you guys think? I heard it's safe to do it as long as I have Methanol! I mean what is the link between the meth and the boost?

You're problem isn't only whether or not your engine will survive..........you're already turning a Maggie 112 (well) past its efficiency. I know of a couple of 112 owners that have tried 9+ lbs of boost with nothing but problems. Your meth kit definitely helps (the IAT's really soar on the maggie at the upper boost levels)but the 112 is not meant for that much boost. I love my 112, but I would have gone with another model (maybe the 122) if I was going to run over 7 lbs.

I would also be worried about the A6 trans...........I"ve heard of a few failing at 550 rwhp/tq.........sorry to rain on your parade.

I think you're o.k.............I would not run any more boost though (my opinion).

Dashti--I agree with Steve also. Another thing to keep in mind is that your ambient temperatures in Kuwait are so high that it is really hard to keep the temperatures down and that higher boost will be even more difficult to live with there than in a cooler climate. I hope you stay where your are on boost. If you change over to a Kenne Bell with better efficiency, then you might be able to raise boost a little, but even then I would be hesitant to do so.

I'll send you a PM next time I'm in Kuwait. Won't be in August, however.

Joe

Meth effectively increases your octane rating. It makes the air fuel mixture more stable. With higher octane (more stable) fuel, you can basically compress it more (i.e. add more boost) before it detonates.

That's a layman's explanation.

Going for ever more on a stock, cast-piston engine. Here's an old post with some food for thought:

well with your stock engine (and cam too?) you'll be right around a 17:1 compression ratio. so you'll want at least a 116 MON fuel (not R+M/2)

So you should be able to do it safely with VPR C16.
