My car is in the shop to have a cv joint boot replaced and the large outboard clamp has become a major challenge. It seems every time they try to tighten it, the tabs (dawgs) that keep the band tight, break. They are using a special tool and are not having a problem with the smaller inboard clamp but have ruined four clamps and are down to the last clamp.
Is there a trick to this ???
I had the rear boot replaced, only came with one clamp had to get it right the first time. the tool looks like a big pair of pliers with pincers. that goes in the tabs for the clamp. dont oversqueeze then we used a screwdriver to mash the prongs into the slot they went in. obviously takes two people. Real screwey design IMO
