Who make a actual affordable CAI?? I refuse to spend $400 or $500 on a piece of plastic and a knockoff K&N airfilter design. Does anyone have one for like $200-$250? I just ordered my exhaust and my wallet and ego are recooperating....
Do a search for Free Air. You can get air in without cutting the shroud.
Cutting the shroud to get cooler air is a GOOD idea, however, this method allows for warmer air from your radiator and oil cooler (Z06).
The Vette-Air scoop is will not only introduce higher amount of air at a much higher velocity, but it will also shield away heat from the radiator.
The Vette-Air is constructed from a three part fiberglass, it will not retain heat like many plastic units and it will not loose its constructional integrity after many cooling and heating cycles.
Don't believe me, check out your AIT temps with your OPEN element filters like the K&N and/or Halltech units with out a hole, with a hole and then with the Vette-Air.
Thanks,
Carlos

Yesterday on the 91 Fwy in SoCal it was 96 deg. I connected my Preditor and did real time monitoring of Ambient Air Temp and Inlet Air Temp. At speeds between 45 and 80, the IAT was no higher than 6 deg above ambient. This is on a completely stock C6. At slower speeds the the difference was greater, but I'm guessing that was due mostly to heat soak. Idling at a stop was a whole different story, but temps dropped quickly once the car started rolling.
The cost of some of these CAI's seems to be pretty steep for a 6 deg drop in IAT. What would make a CAI less susceptible to slow speed heat soak?

Yet another reason why the Vette-Air at $124.95 ($139.95 reg price) is NOT a bad option.
And trust me, you will see AIT readings much lower than 6* over the ambient temp!
